You don't have to have a prescription to buy nicorette or commit which is a lozenge instead of gum, in any state. I have used them both to stop smoking. Unfortunately I still continue to use smokeless tobacco. It's Copenhagen for me as well, like I think it was or is for TripleG but done with the cigarettes after well over 20 years. I don't know why your husband would tell you that you have to have a prescription because that just simply isn't true. Good luck to you. You can do it. Mike

My husband was a heavy smoker,he tried to quit many times but never did until one day, we saw this television ad,projectfilter.com,where the idaho dept of health supports people who want to quit smoking.i checked the website and signed him up,they sent him 2 boxes of step 1 Nicorette for free.he used that for 2 wks but then he stopped and just did it on his own.it's been almost 3mos now and he's doing pretty good. All it takes is self discipline and determination, plus of course u'll need the support from the people around u.

good luck

I smoked for 18 years. I tried to quit with nicoderm patches. It worked for a little while, but you are just replacing nicotine for nicotine. I used chantix and i quit after my first 4 week prescription. About the effects, well it did tend to make me "zone out" after about 1 hour after taking it. Nothing serious. It sometimes will give you crazy dreams until your body gets used to it, usually good dreams though. hehehe. My sister, who smoked for over 30 years, quit using chantix. It did tend to make her sick to her stomach. So she cut the pills in half and spread the dosage out during the day. I won't sugar coat it. It has some side effects. But it did help me quit. You still need discipline, but the chantix takes the edge off. Plus, it makes cigarettes taste aweful. Give it a shot, it worked for me. I didn't think my sister would EVER quit.
