I have been trying to but really it is hard, I have to start now , I know about Champix but afraid of psychological effects?( how true) , and nicorette not available here, asked hubby to buy me but he cant as he is not a smoker , has to have prescription before he can buy ; though my medical is still few months from now , need to start now , so there wont be problem if and whenevr ; I dont know if i am just being paranoid , actually I had my annual medical exams last january09 , everything is fine with me , including chest xray , but I just want to make sure that everything will be ok come medical exams at SLMC.

my husband is using nicorette gum now and here in Colorado we can buy it over the counter (i didnt know you need a prescription from it) bought one in CVS... he chew (smokeless tabaco) and its worst than smoking. and its even harder to quit he said. he tried so many times coz i dont want him to chew i dont like the smell and a whole lot of reasons... so now he's into nicorette again he said he will quit as a b-day gift for me  i know its hard for him to do it, thats why i stopped nagging him long time ago coz it will only lead into arguments. now he volunteer so i still support him no matter what. i know addiction is so hard to stop even if you want it to... and i dont think it will affect your medical since its not a contagious disease and it may give some particles in your lungs, the doctors will know the difference and hopefully you will pass w/ no problems... i wish you luck!!! kudos for trying to quit smoking  and did your fiance even tried buying one (nicorette gum)? or did he just assume he couldnt buy one... im not a smoker or even chew but i bought some back then for my hubby...

Don't drink any alcohol and tell all your friends you have stopped smoking to be supportive (for some reason, friends who are smokers want buddy smokers so might be best to stay away from friends who are smokers at least in the beginning). Do whatever it takes to get the gum or the patches. I've never smoked or chewed, but had friends that used the patch and it worked. They say the desire to smoke/chew remains for around 6 months so when you make it passed 6 months, you've probably truly "quit" smoking rather than "stopped" smoking. :) The "6 month" thing means you should probably not drink any alcohol for 6 months too, because, you know, if you drink, it makes you weak to your addiction.

I believe its called Chantix? A friend of mine here in the USA quit smoking using this pill and he was a heavy smoker for almost 30 years. It didn't make him any crazier then he already is  I just woke up from a deep sleep to smoke a cigarette so I know what you are going through. I started smoking a few years back in the RP because I had a real bad smokeless tobacco problem and it wasn't readily available there in the RP. I was so addicted to Copenhagen snuff that I would get physically sick if I didn't have any. Now I am fighting both habits. I dropped by my local country Texas doctors office last week to ask about Chantix but he was out makeing house calls. I plan to go see him later this week and I will ask for substitutes or generics that also might be available there in the RP. I will send you a PM if learn anything.

I know someone else who quit a few years back using a drug called Zye-ban.

Good luck.

Hi Forestrose... nicotine is 99% addicting and when you have to quit, you have to consult a physician so you'll have the right dosage for the pill... there is psychological effect on human body, it depends on the person taking it... My fiancee used to take that before,he went to see a physician for that... better be safe dear... God bless :)

You're Gods' wonderful blessing... I'm so happy to be with my baby, dog eddie, mom and dog molly...

Extremely happy with my married life, but we're praying for a baby this 2010, so help us GOD....

A friend of mine quit using Chantix. He and his wife both used it to quit. He had no side effects at all and quit fairly easily after smoking for 30+ years. His wife had side effects but only dreams. He said she had some extremely wild and very vivid dreams while she was taking it. I've had several friends who used it and maybe 1/3 of them said they had the wild dreams, but that was all. I'm not sure why he can't buy the gum or patches. There's no prescription required here in Kansas either. You do have to be of age, just like buying cigarettes but It's stocked on the shelves right along side the nutritional supplements. I'm struggling with smoking myself so best wishes and good luck!!
