The Klan is not on any ballot in 2009. There is no mainstream (defined by having elected representatives) political party in the US that will only accept members of one racial group.

Play it however you want - the reason the BNP got in is because Labour's support in the North of England (traditional Labour base) collapsed. The BNP's share of the national vote hardly increased at all.

We saw what happened in France, with it's backlash against immigrants, not too long ago. I am sure there still are some resentment there on both sides. Can the rest of Europe be that far away from similiar incidents? Not every government is going to be as pacifist as the French were during their immigrant riots.

They have seats in European parliament. They are now a mainstream party within UK politics, as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

Is the current state of affairs permanent? Of course not, nothing political is.

But for now, it is what it is. They've broken through the one barrier they never should have.

Europe's political shift has a lot to do with the recession - and a rejection of 20 years of EU integration and laws imposed on member nations from Brussells.

The EU's open borders immigration policy - which allows citizens from any member nation to live and work in any other effectively means that there is no such thing as an illegal immigrant. EU recently took Romania and Bulgaria into the fold (and they're trying to bring in the Balkans and Turkey) - the pattern of immigration from some of those countries is decidely one-way.

Well you just had 8 years of Bush/Cheney. Things are on the backslide from that.

Europe has had decades of leftist government. The backslide naturally goes the other way.

Just that the political landscape in the US has shifted away from the right.

Similarly Voters in Europe have had enough of the left.
