Hello, I entered the US on K-3 visa, and filed AOS last month.

I got NOA for I-485 and I-765 on April 18, and got biometrics done on May 7 in Las Vegas, NV.

I live in Utah, and the Application Support Center in Las Vegas was the closest one (two hours away from home).

I haven't gotten any other notices after the NOA on April 18,

and I only know my I-485 and I-765 cases are at the NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location, based on the USCIS website information.

I wonder how long it will take to get an interview. I want to know other VJ members' timeline whose cases were transfered to NBC.

I am going to be out of the States for two months and a half

b/c my husband will take a summer language program in my country.

I am worried about potentially missing the assigned interview date.

Are there any ways to find out whether my interview is scheduled on the phone or on the Internet?

Also, is there a way to reopen cases if I miss the interview date?

I really hope my interview will be scheduled after I return.

Another question is what I need to do change my address for receiving notices,

if I want to change the address to my mother-in-law's while I'm gone.

Thank you very much. Any advice related to this issue will be very helpful for me.

You should make InfoPass appointment to your USCIS local district office to find out those answers.

Be careful about the trip.

Sometimes if you make the trip out of country during AOS, USCIS may deny the case because they see it as abandoning the case.

It's very rare, but be careful during the AOS process.

If possible, you can file I-131 Advanced Parole for your trip, but it will take 2~3 months.

For 2 & half months trip, if you have a problem with I-131 AP approval,

I think it will be better stay in the U.S. until you get I-485 AOS approved.

USCIS can make simple mistake, but it may cause a lot difficulty for you.

You can ask current status of your AOS during InfoPass, and USCIS employee can check your potential interview schedule if any.

After NBC processed your AOS case initially, they will forward the case to your local USCIS DO for further interview or something like that.

So it may take easily up to 6 months. Maybe longer...

No problem. USCIS will keep open the case up to 12 months, and close the case with administrative close if applicant doesn't response.

But my gut feeling tells me that your case may be still in waiting for USCIS adjudicator to review.

Another question is what I need to do change my address for receiving notices,

if I want to change the address to my mother-in-law's while I'm gone.

You can write the letter to notify new address to mailing address in the bottom of I-797 NOA1 receipt.

You have to include the case number, and may include the copy of I-797 NOA1 for reference.

Also you can call USCIS 1-800 number and ask customer representative to file "service request" for the case with new address.

Do not forget that you have to file AR-11 either via mail, or online within 10 days of move until you become US citizen.

Even for US citizen, they have to file address change if they have I-864 Affadivit of Support contract in effect.

Probably you can find M-476 document from USCIS website, and prepare/record all the info for N400 in advance.

www.uscis.gov/files/article/M-476.pdf

www.uscis.gov/files/form/N-400.pdf

Be prepared for future, so you don't do anything special - bad - things.

Keep living as normal, ordinary person.

So USCIS may not notice any red flag on you. :innocent:
