This doesn't strike you as odd?

not at all. oral arguments are just showboating, and a formality that hangs on from an earlier day. scalia and stevens provide the contrast, and roberts and ginsberg step in from time to time, but the decisions are based upon the submissions, not the orals. the orals give the audience an idea of the direction the justices are leaning, but certain justices have been known to "devil's advocate" from time to time, as a way to display a little dark humour. ginsberg is noted for this.

I am not sure what he is saying is even true though, not to the point that people honestly expect to have 'things' just given to them as of right rather than working for them? That is not to say that there is misunderstanding of credit, there is quite definitely a lack of understanding that a credit card is a form of borrowing, borrowing that must be paid back. That is not helped by having banks that allow creditors to pay back a minimum rate that ensures the debt grows at a steady rate until credit entropy is reached.
