Work authorizations processing time

Hi everyone,

I currently have a work authorization that expires on July 31. I was told that if I send in my adjustment of status (filed because I was a student and married an american) and work authorization (I 765) by June 15, I'd get the new authorization before the old one expires (someone at the school I'm working at told me that). Now they say it takes 90 days which means that I'll have to stop working during that time. Does anyone have experience with this?

1. does it really take 90 days or are they saying that so I won't bug them?

2. I realized just yesterday that in the rush to send everything in on time, I forgot to submit two photos (have been kicking myself very hard for this since I realized it). Do you think that will delay things significantly?

3. What exactly does it mean to stop working? I teach at a university and so I don't really work at school during the summer. Do I just not get paid or do I have to be taken off the books so to speak? Someone suggested I could take a 'voluntary leave of absence' where I wouldn't get paid but would still get health insurance, but I wasn't sure if this would be enough

thanks in advance for your help
