Hello my fellow VJ members/readers,

We got approved for I-130 this week (yey!!!). My husband is trying to prepare paperwork needed for DS-230 package. One of the requirement is to get PCC. Our consulate is in Chennai, India. I've read some threads about getting PCC from both Passport Office PCC and District Office. What is the difference between these two places? My husband is originally from Gujarat and his passport was made in Gujarat. But he moved to Bangalore 3 years back. So, does he need to obtain PCC from Gujarat and Bangalore? Also, where does he go to get PCC from Passport Office PCC and District Office?

I am not too familiar with India. I apologize for my ignorance about all these stuff.

Thank you all for the help. This forum rocks!!!!

Police Records

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence.

Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside

So, this means he needs PCC only from Surat, right mindmaster....by the way....thanks!!!

Since you said he's been living in Bangalore, he needs to get PCC from Bangalore. I think he also needs to get a clearance certificate from his district police office serving the area where he lives. See links below:

Champi - Congratulations!!. Your husband will need to get a District Police station PCC from the area he lives in within Bangalore. He will also need to get the Passport PCC from the Passport Office, he can try to get the passport PCC from the office that covers Bangalore, but since his passport is issued from Gujarat, they may have to send the forms to the Gujarat office.

Hi Champi,

Congratulations on approval :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: ...

In your case two police clearence certificate is required. one from the commisioners office of bangalore and the other from the regional passport office from where the passport is issued, in that case for you it is from Surat passport office...It would be better to get the PCC from bangalore first as it may be required for getting the PCC from Surat RPO...This info i got from the chennai consulate...All the best for the rest of journey..
