Getting married in the Philippines---?

Hello all,

I am getting married in the Philippines in two weeks. On of the documents that I need to bring is a copy of my Divorce Decree. I have one original certified copy and I am going to make a few xerox copies of that. Will the one original and extra copies be sufficient?

To obtain additional original copies will take longer then I have as they told me they are archived somewhere and it is a long process to obtain them. I am glad I have the 1 original cert, I just hope that is enough.

Thanks

Steve

Hi I hope you don't mind me asking but where are you getting married in the Philippines?

Reason I ask is because I went there and lived there for 3 years and was married there. I brought my divorce decree and had to obtain a certificate in lieu of legal capacity to marry from the united states embassy at which time I had to show my divorce decree to the consular agent. Then before we could marry we had to apply for a marriage license which takes 10 days to get, and before the ceremony we had to undergo a pre-marriage seminar to obtain a certificate that is needed on the day we are to be married.

This is the procedure in Manila.

I am a united states citizen.

That will work fine. First thing you have to do is go the the US EMBASSY and get a Affidavit to marry from the American Service Center. Open 8am -10am Something like that. Was $25 I"think" \> you'll need your original divorce decree.

You then have to wait 10 days for a civil marriage. Catholic church longer.

Hi,

I am getting married in Bislig. I am going to manila first to obtain my affidavit first, then to Bislig to apply for the marriage cert. I was just hoping that my 1 original divorce decree along with a few photo copies would be ok.

Thanks

Steve

yes for the affidavit at the Embassy they will look at the divorce decree but you will keep it, they wont want a copy. Basically you are signing it under penalty of perjury and it is a simple process be there by 7 am because it fills up fast.

I would plan on at minimum 3 weeks in country before the wedding because of all the different paperwork you will need and seminars you will have to attend. and the license takes 10 days from the time you arrive in the Philippines then the Popcom seminar is completed before the civil registrar will issue a license. You can come to the Philippines without a visa for 21 days and then it is a simple matter of going to immigration office and get an extension for 1-2 months at a time if needed.

All the above is true.

The only sad thing for most is the inability to get sufficient time off from work here in the states.

That was the biggest problem for us, and attending all the seminars.

We ended up getting married as I had to leave for the states, and had no honeymoon.

In fact, following the wedding, we stayed up all night and I had to leave the next morning.

What a way to say good-bye as you are finishing saying I do.

As they said..take a few extra copies of everything, as it will help later should they lose papers, or documents which has been known to happen. It happened to me,and is not very common...but it is always a possibility.

have fun at the embassy. All they do is ask you to take an oath of truth on the divorce, and ability to marry, and very informal.

the rest is a lot of running around, and time consuming errands.

Nice thing is you will get to see a lot of things in doing so, and see how things tic so to speak.

Good luck on your marriage, and be proud. There are a lot of people who will admire you when it is all over and who are too afraid to try such an adventure.

Enjoy the Philippines if you have never been there before....you will never forget it once you do.

Take Care

Randy
