I asked a little while ago about changing my mailing address to my mom's address in the U.S. and decided against it based on the advice that I didn't change my *physical presence*. I think I've figured out why the mail hasn't come, though (no NOA1 and so far no NOA2). The K-1 should now be at the NVC if it hasn't already been shipped to Juarez. I asked my mom to have a look at the forms again and tell me what address is on them, and she gave me exactly what I had put, but it seems to be missing the Colonia. I DID receive a piece of mail from my aunt back in December that didn't have the colonia on it (the address is exactly the same as what's on the forms), but I know addresses here in Merida are usually super-specific, listing the streets that the house is in between and sometimes even nearby landmarks ("behind such-and-such store" or "adjacent to the orange tree"). I'm wondering if it would be prudent to call the NVC now and advise them that no mail has been received here, and adjust (not change completely) the address so that it's a lot more specific. Opinions? I'm just worried that NOTHING is going to get here, and I don't want to go to Juarez empty handed or with a scrap of paper with the NVC number written down.

Changing it at the NVC stage probably won't matter. I called to change Aldo's address once it was at the embassy because he was living in the states at the time we filed, so you can do that...no guarantees that it will get to you still. His address in Merida is really specific too, but he still hasn't received a thing and it's been almost 6 weeks since it was mailed from the embassy.

So he's obviously waiting for the packet to arrive before he goes, which is ideally what we'd do as well. We're at a disadvantage though, since we live together, because had I been living in the States I'm sure I would've gotten something. Here, nada. I'll probably give the embassy a call when I'm home next week just for my own peace of mind (but I'll have to call the NVC first anyway to find out my case number).

No, he's not waiting for the packet to arrive. He is going to the embassy next week and having them print the invitation letter for him. I'm here in the states and haven't gotten a thing either...well, I've gotten the NOA2, but nothing since.

Ohhhh, please keep me posted on how that goes (as I'm sure you will in the Juarez thread anyway!), since he's going with nothing (except for his NVC number, I'm assuming). I want to be sure if we are in the same situation (and in that we're going to be DRIVING from Merida to Juarez), going with nothing in hand I'll still be able to print out the invite letter there. I know they say all the time in the Juarez thread that it's okay, but I'll feel a lot better knowing that someone has experienced it first hand (recently). :star:

We ARE driving, but that was after doing some pretty exhaustive research on flight costs. From Merida to Juarez it's working out around $12000 pesos for 2 people round-trip, plus hotel, etc. I thought about taking a bus from Merida to Mexico City and then flying from there but just the bus costs are over $3,000 pesos round-trip and I would be worried that the bus would break down or something would happen that would mean missing the flight to Juarez. If we rent a car at least we can go at a little more relaxed pace. We are going to leave the baby with my fiancee's mom though, just for safety's sake.

No way! What airlines did you look at?? Check out www.interjet.com.mx...If you guys are willing to fly out of Cancun, you can get flights for about half that to Cd. Juarez. Just do a search by price and then you can pick the cheapest days. Aldo's ticket was $3500 pesos RT, and there were flights even cheaper than that if you can be flexible with the dates. Also check www.vivaaerobus.com. They have flights that are even cheaper than Interjet, but you have to be a little creative with the scheduling. You have to buy tickets from Merida-Monterrey, and then from Monterrey-Cd. Juarez, but the total price of the tickets is ridiculously cheap, especially if you don't have to check any luggage and just do carry-ons. I hope you can find something that will work for you guys. That drive would be hell!! Also, I'm not sure if you know this, but Juarez won't allow you to attend the interview with your fiance--they won't even allow you inside the embassy. Just something to think about when you're planning the trip. I wanted to go too, but when we found that out that I wouldn't be able to go to the embassy with him anyway, we opted not to spend the extra money for me to go.
