Just wrote my Senator Burr (NC).

I'd suggest contacting your Representative also. It's been my experience that the rep is much more responsive to the concerns and plights of his/her constituents then the Congressman. I think something to do with re-election every two years. I still have yet to hear-back from any of my Senators after contacting their offices 3-months ago.

mae_jim, congratulations! I am curious why you say apparently all visas are sent back to US for final approval? Do you mean electronically? Also as our interview approaches quickly would love to know more about your interview experience and the kinds of questions they are asking. Finally, was there any resistance to your request to pick up the visa at the embassy?

Thanks and again congratulations.

The reason I said apparently is that on vj I see visas in one day and another member mentioning the same as i was told. But i think also having 6:30am appointment might have a head start, ours was at 7:30am. Do not know what is sent back to the states, but i would guess it is electronically. It is very hard to get information from the peronnel working there, everyone gives the same stock answer. I requested to pickup the visa, CO had no problem giving us authorization to pick up visa.

Some questions for pre-interview - the person asked for the paper work

How/where did you meet?

When did he first visit you?

How many times did he visit?

When did you become boyfriend and girlfriend?

Mae had problems remembering dates - she was told she better remember the dates.

For the CO interview

How/where did you meet?

How many times i visited?

Asked when we first met and if we got engaged then - we did not become engaged until later visit.

Asked both about how many times divorced and children.

Questioned Mae about her husband's presumption of death - how long you did not see your husband before filing? Any reason for him leaving?

Both were asked about type of work we did.

The questions were simple overall. Hope this helps.

I am sorry for your experience, mine was quite the reverse:

When I was trying to find out what was going on my NOA2, I wrote my Rep Myrick, and I got a canned response back from her office on "illegal immigration". She is just anothe Bush "lapdog". I responded back to her office and got no further help.

When I wrote my Senator the first time, I got an almost instant respose saying someone would be back in touch, and they were within 24 hours. They were very sympathic and let me know they could be contacted anytime. His office is professional and courteous. Even though I am a die-hard Democrat, I would vote for him because I think he is a very good public servant and wants to help his constituents.

It is bad in both of our cases that it comes down to us just wanting someone to do their job, and it is impossible. Good luck.

Of course, when the congressman's office gets a reply from the USE, they even give the legislator a canned-reply. So, I'm largely of the impression that a congressman's help is severely limited in as much as they really don't have the power to DO ANYTHING for you, except maybe ensure your case is being dutifully worked-on.

Yup, embassy needs to receive the physical file before an interview can be scheduled.

Thanks PW. Should I start worrying yet? NVC sent our file out on the 12th. I talked to the USE the morning of the 19th there in the Phils. Should'nt they have our physical file by now?

My fiancee is flying from Cebu/HK/LAX/CHI. Does anyone know if she can have her POE in Chicago or will they make her do it in LAX? I can't seem to find any info on it. Chicago is her final destination but of course her actual "POE" in LAX. Maybe a stupid question but just wondering. :help:

It can take up to 2 to 3 weeks. Assuming they sent it when they said.

I believe the POE is always the first airport that an international flight arrives at, much like I go through customs at Detroit everytime coming back from the RP, but my final destination is PA.

For sure the first place (port) of entry into the US (wherever she de-planes first) is where she will clear customs and immigration. Her's will be LAX.
