ITR Question:

Which is more beneficial or profitable? Filing ITR jointly or separately? My wife doesn't have ssn yet and is not eligible to get one yet till she receives her EAD. If I will go the course of joint filing, we need to file TIN for her, and it means I won't be able to get something (some refunds) now, is that right? If it will be filing separately, I might get my refund, but what are the requirements?

Info will be appreciated. Thanks

Definitely more profitable with another 3500 buck exemption if you are paying taxes plus the much greater standard deduction if you use that, plus if your wife is here, she ain't working until she gets her EAD.

Was close with mine, both wife and her daughter, but called the IRS, they are an exemption and a dependent, and didn't have to include their SS numbers, since they didn't have them yet. But their EAD's did come in with SS numbers before that dreaded April 15th date, so I was able to write those in. As the IRS changes the playing field every year, would give them a call first. Or you can pay a tax professional for that information.
