According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Those who are pro illegal immigration or simply don't care obviously do not realize that the same people and groups that are responsible for incidents like the above are also jumping the border and entering the United States of America.

I don't know about anyone else here but I sure as hell do not want these sort of people in my backyard.

It sounds rather like naiive people not doing any research beforehand.

There are similar places in *this* country I wouldn't set foot in.

My point exactly PD. If tourists do not take the time to research and want to play Indiana Jones in the Brazilian favelas, or the Mexico city barrios; why on earth are they surprised when they get mugged, attacked or worse? Really, stupidity reigns.

Next you are going to tell me the beheading of people in the name of "drug wars" is also the norm both here and abroad.

Hmm, I cannot think of one place in Australia you can go to and consequently lose your life.

I know you like these segues onto other subjects - but that really has nothing to do with what I said.

Well I hear Victoria State isn't the place to be at the moment.

*shrugs* Perhaps you just aren't very well travelled in your own country.

It has a lot to do with it actually. You always downplay anything that you don't agree with. I haven't heard of too many people visiting the Uk and going missing, have you?

Obviously natural disasters are the equivalent of being kidnapped, tortured and killed while on holiday.

Its rare - but happens. 2 immigrant students were stabbed to death (200+ times) in their London apt last year.

Even if it doesn't - what does that have to do with anything I said?

I have no illusions whatsoever that Mexico and other SA countries have some horribly deprived crime ridden areas. The point surely - is to be aware enough to not go near those places...

The 1999 edition of the Guinness Book of Records brought international attention to Palm Island when it named the island the most violent place on earth outside a combat zone. To support this claim it stated statistics such as a murder rate 15 times higher than that of the entire state of Queensland, a life expectancy of 40 years, the highest rate of youth suicide per capita in the world, and a total of 40 suicide fatalities over a period of only five years.[34]
