My fiancée is an English teacher, so if anyone wishes to contact her please let me know. She graduated university the same year as me, in 2002, with a degree in English. She has since gone back and earned a Master's in Applied Linguistics. Although I am a native speaker and an English major, she knows more about grammar theory and language acquisition than me.

Of course she still has a lot more to learn, but we have an excellent method. I will give her a new vocabulary word and since she already knows a fair amount, I will give her several synonyms as well as provide several exemplary sentences. She then begins to use these new words until she owns them. She loves learning English, so it's a joy studying with her. In return she teaches me a wealth of Thai language.

Have you encouraged her to join us here on VJ? I think I speak for all when I say that we would all be pleased to make her acquaintance.

With Rosetta Stone there's not Thai to English. There's just learn English. Or Learn "whatever language".

Its an immersion style learning. You can set it up to only teach speaking or to teach reading/writing as well. Level 1 is showing photos and speaking the names of the nouns in the photos. It than proceeds to identifying actions and getting the person speaking basic sentences.

Not sure if there's a free demo or not, but it works pretty good.

 We received the packet 3 from the embassy while I am here in BKK on a visit, so we both went to the Police Station to get the Police report going this morning. I thought this should be a no charge service as specified on the instruction sheet from the embassy? The guy who did ours and a couple others charged 200THB! So being an american I wanted to raise a stink but figured we'd never see the report. Has other people been charged for this service?

All in all, process is moving ahead smoothly. Looks like some people have gotten the physical started before receiving the packet 4 and interview date?

We are heading to Krabi for a few days before I retunr to the states on May 10th, starting to get a little concerned about the Swine flu...

I do have to say I have never experienced hot like this, near 39C one day! ;-)

Oops, now I have read earlier posts and see everyone is getting charged the 200THB, but no receipts! I think the office has decided to start doing this and who is going to stop them?

I would have paid 1000b to get it in 4 days like what was offered to Barrybbq. I think we were told 2-1/2 - 3 weeks. We are just wasting time as everything else is waiting for that.

Krabi is cool. Rent a scooter and drive around. Krabi town is fun to go in for the day by scooter. You can also get a private long tail for the day for pretty cheap by just talking to the boat captain not booking it the way you are supposed to. We got our captain to bring a cooler and ice. We brought the beer and food. Saw 3 islands, had lunch on one of them and then went snorkeling. I saw boats loaded to the max doing the same thing and it did not long anywhere as cool as ours. There a famous fish restaurant that thais know about thats on the left (ocean side) after you drive past the beach and follow the road to the right. Its real good prices and food.

You need to have the physical done prior to sending in Packet3.

Looks like they figured out a way to make a few baht. I would still press for a receipt. I have receipts for everything we did as part of the process.

well, the wife went to the Embassy today at 12:40pm. came out at 2pm. They took all 6 documents and said #6 was not correct. This is the form to prove she has sole custody of the kid. So, they gave her an example of what they want from her.

The sister says its no problem to do. They will do it tomorrow. Apparently the Embassy is closed Wed., so she needs to wait to go back to BKK next Monday. Niiiiice.

Rin had to have a similar document (didn't need the document at the embassy; needed it to get the children's passports). She had to go to the local amphur along with two witnesses (her sister and cousin, in her case) and sign an affidavit stating that she was solely responsible for taking care of the children. The only other alternative was a similar document from the local amphur signed by her ex-husband. I believe the document was like 20 baht, but it was about 3:15 when she went, office closes at 4:00 pm, so the guy was going to miss his bus home if he did it, have to take a taxi, she'd have to come back in morning, long lines in morning, blah, blah, blah. But for an "extra" 400 baht he could stay and do it and take a taxi home. <_< OK, you can cross Bangkok twice for 400 baht, but whatever. Took him 15 minutes; she was out of there by 3:30.
