taken from the packet 4 link at the beginning of this thread.

"Visa fees are not refundable; they must be paid through a rupee bank draft drawn on a nationalized or foreign bank. The bank drafts must be issued in the name of “The American Embassy, New Delhi”, and should be payable in Delhi. Traveler's check or cash in US $ is acceptable. As the rate of exchange can change, we recommend that applicants check the current consular rate of exchange at our website www.newdelhi.usembassy.gov or contact the Embassy ahead of their interview to obtain the current consular rate of exchange. Sam -It is important for us to find out if there is only HDFC that is acceptable...

Only ClassicRock can answer that question since he submitted one recently.

We did the HDFC draft and it was payable in Mumbai. In fact, in the draft they put the location of the HDFC branch where it would be payable. My fiancee already had an account with HDFC. If you do not bank with them, you can still go there and pay. They will not give you a draft to take with you to the Consulate but send the money on your behalf.

In our case, we were given specific instructions by the VFS office in Kolkata as it relates to the draft. They had listed HDFC branches in Kolkata where my fiancee could go to get the draft done. So, calling the VFS Delhi office may be a good idea for all you guys.

My take on all this...

I personaly would take the cash ($131) if I had the option/choice rather than 1) worry about the process (as it has be done just so); 2) depend on the vagaries of the market, given the exchange rate is changing. It has already changed from 50 to 52 to 55 in the last 2/3 weeks. My fiancee had one made at the 50 rate and then canceled to have one made for 52 just a couple of days before the interview and it has already changed to 55 I hear.

In fact, if my fiancee had posed this question to me when I was fedexing the I-134 and other documents after our NOA2, I would have put the cash in the fedex envelope. You can always get the dollars from a bank in India or have a travelers check made, payable in dollars.

Hope this helps.

Thanx ClassicRock for all that info.

So today I went to VFS to submit my docs. They took the following things :-

Passport ( They will give it back to you. Use that to confirm your address)

Appointment Letter ( 1 copy )

4 pictures ( 50 x 50 )

DS - 230 Part I ( part one signed & dated) and II ( One copy in original )

DS - 156 ( signed and dated ) ( One copy )

Copy of Passport

PCC ( From Passport and Police station in original)

Affidavit Of Support

Birth Certificate ( Original and clear photocopy )

Secondary evidence ( 10th certificate original and photocopy - I didn't have original at that time so they took only Birth Cert. =( and told me to take that to interview. =(

Secondary evidence - only required if ur name is not mentioned on ur birth cert. So its better to get an affidavit for that.

Unfortunately I only have birth cert original at that time. =( I wish I knew that u take secondary evidence in originals too. Anyways I'll get back to that later.

Medical Report ( There were 2 big envelopes that I had to give them but they took only one. They didn't take my X-Ray and said don't bring that to interview. But from where I got my medical done they told me that X-Ray and that other sealed envelope are for embassy. Ugh so much confusion. )

Then I had to argue with them a little in a polite way to submit other stuff. ;)

Letters

E-mails

Phone logs

Pictures ( Engagement pictures, pictures from all trips - don't forget to include pics with family ;) )

Fee - Rs 387

They will count all the things for you i.e. emails, letters, pics. Ya count count 1 + 1 = 11 ;)

After that they gave me a receipt with a checklist. The checklist contains all the docs that u submitted with VFS. And you are good to go. It was a good experience. I wish I had my 10th certificate originals with me. =(

So guys my question is when should I submit those two docs i.e. Affidavit for name on birth cert. and my 10th certificate. At what point exactly? Do they ask for docs when they ask for ur VFS receipt or draft? They told me to bring those to interview otherwise I might get a 221 (g).

I'm so nervous. :(:help:

How many envelopes did u get for medical report? And which envelopes did they tell u to submit at VFS or Embassy? Did you get any X-Ray?

Anways don't worry abt count. They only count the emails, letters, phone logs and pictures. You can do that counting the home.

I was arguing abt submitting more evidence like itenararies, shopping receipts etc.

If they don't take the letters, emails etc then you need to request them to take it. =) And don't forget to bring originals of your personal docs at VFS.

I wonder if tomorrow is a holiday there.

Anyways if u have any questions then u can call me.

We're shooting for the end of April. Really quick, I know...hoping we can pull it off. We're going to have something very small and intimate so I think we'll be okay!

My fiancee turned in all the documents into VFS. They accepted everything except I think one of the 156 Forms which you sign in front of the interviewer. They took the pictures and proof of relationship without any problems. So now just the interview is left on 24th.

If everything goes according to plan we are going for Early May for a wedding.

Hey guys, longgggg timeeeeee, I have been reading, just havent had the time or patience to post n e thing... I think I am SCREWED. My fiance sent packet 3 back on Feb. 27th. Its been 2 1/2 weeks, havent heard n e thing. ALSO, I call DOS everyday and according to them, nothing has been entered into the system, therefore it means they have not recieved our packet 3 at the consulate. I tried e-mailing, I tried calling the embassy, maybe I am calling the wrong number or something, but no one answers. I just wish I could somehow find out if they recieved anything and have just not entered it into the system yet. I feel so helpless right now. I dont know where to go from here and what to do. I told the lady at DOS that I cant get through to anyone at the embassy, she said its only been 2 1/2 weeks, wait atleast 2 more, then we will look into it. I am just........... spent. Any advice?
