Stephen Jefferson was arrested by the New Jersey State Police at the Thomas Edison Service Area in Woodbridge on Feb. 11.

Authorities said Jefferson was sleeping in a vehicle that had a South Carolina license plate on the back and a New Jersey license plate in the front registered to a different vehicle.

A trooper questioning Jefferson noticed boxes in the vehicle. Jefferson told the trooper the boxes, 56 in all, contained imitation Nike sneakers that he was going to sell to his friends in the military, authorities said.

The trooper saw a box of 9 mm ammunition on the rear seat and a further search turned up a loaded 9mm handgun and a pair of brass knuckles, authorities said.

Jefferson was arrested and charged with counterfeit property and weapons offenses. He was freed on $25,000 bail.

He should have bought a van.

SC doesn't put plates on the front. He could have just removed the NJ plate, might have saved himself some trouble.

The problem is, that's what a smart person would do, which this guy clearly wasn't.

Yeah. Can you imagine how this conversation went?
