John Sergeant has pulled out of Strictly Come Dancing following continued criticism of his presence in the reality dance show.

The 64-year-old former political reporter has released a statement saying. “The trouble is that there is now a real danger that I might win the competition. Even for me that would be a joke too far.”

Despite his questionable dancing ability, John Sergeant has been massively popular with the voting public, with allegedly dozens of Facedbook groups dedicated to him. His success prompted judge Len Goodman to state last week that he “made a nonsense of the show”, following Cherie Lunghi’s departure.

So what do we think? Did he jump or was he pushed? Has Strictly lost its sense of humour? Or is is a dance contest, not a popularity contest? Are we sorry to see John Sergeant go? Or is it an outrage that he’s lasted this long anyway?

Update: 4pm Producers have revealed that Sergeant will return on Saturday’s show for a “farewell dance”. According to BBC News, he likened his departure to leaving a “party is before the fight starts.”

He was by far the best.... not as a dancer :) but I have not seen anybody so entertaining in ages.

What a shame he gave up! :( He will be solely missed.

I wonder who will be the next to go?

You'd probably say that if I watched X Factor and I'm a Celeb.. but I don't lol.

Same here. :)

And I just can't figure out why people watch I'm a Celeb... when there are no celebs there?! It's not even 2nd class any more... About 2 names that I know and the rest... who?:wacko:

Exactly, it's the same with Celeb Big Brother.

So who's next to go? Lisa, Jody or Christine?
