Lost passport before naturalization interview

I was wondering if anybody has had this problem before? I have my naturalization interview based on marriage coming up shortly and I have lost my passport. I know that trying to get a new one from my Consulate will take a while and my interview is next week. What should I do?

I have my green card, driver's license, photocopies of the passport, all joint tax returns, and a thick folder of documents proving the marriage.

It seems unnecessary to have the passport given that you can actually enter the country with your green card WITHOUT a foreign passport (though this will never happen by plane, technically it is possible) and you will have a US passport, if approved, soon after the interview.

If anyone can provide advice I would appreciate it.

All you can do is take the photocopies of your passport to your interview and explain what happened to your passport. Did you report the loss to the police? if so did you get a crime number or report, you could take that to your interview as well.

Good Luck

i think, while you are waiting for your interview, apply for a new passport at the embassy of your country here in usa, and see if they have the option that they can have it ready as soon as possible, they may send it to you before your interview..but you still need to take the copies of your passport to the interview...good luck

I think you can check with your consulate if they have expedited services for passports and did you report to the police when you discovered the other one missing?

Well goodluck

I was never asked for my passport at the interview.

They do not have expedited service at my embassy.

So they do not always ask for the foreign passport at the interview? I can definitely get a police report stating I lost it but will not be able to get a replacement on time.

It seems unnecessary to have the passport given that you can actually enter the country with your green card WITHOUT a foreign passport (though this will never happen by plane, technically it is possible) and you will have a US passport, if approved, soon after the interview.

If anyone can provide advice I would appreciate it.

It all depends on USCIS adjudicator, whom you are dealing with.

Adjudicator is nice word for interview officer.

The reason for asking all your passports including current/expired is following.

- Current unexpired passport : check your birth info along with your identity in addition to driver license, and green card

- check the E/D record to confirm your in/out record for oversea travel

If interview officer needs to verify your oversea travel record, and he/she feel he/she need to verify details,

he/she can hold your case until he/she can verify your in/out record.

If someone doesn't care about those info, you will be fine.

But if someone care much about it, you might be in trouble.

Do you have the copy of every pages from your old/current passport ? At least every pages, which contains some visa stamps?

You can not get back to US without passport even though you have green card.

This was changed recently.

The main reason asking to bring all your expired/current passports is to verify your in/out record from visa stamps, which is critical for your N400 eligibility.

I wish you have luck to have Interview officer, who doesn't care much about it.
