Hey everyone,

I just read from a post somewhere that Packet 4 asks you to find your parents' marriage certificate?? Does the Montreal consulate ask for that? Just want to make sure that this doesn't surprise me. Thank you!

Oh, thank God! I read that the embassy in Bogota requires that, but I'm glad the Canadian US consulate doesn't.

That would be so wierd if they needed that. What if your parents were never married, what if you were estranged from them, etc. There is no way you could control obtaining your parents marriage cert!

I've been lurking on this thread for a while, as my fiance lives in Canada and will be going to Montreal for her interview. We submitted her Packet 3 at the end of May, so we thought no way we would get an interview until August/September. Well today, on the off chance a miracle might happen, I called DOS to inquire as to the status. I was floored...as we have an interview July 29!!! I'll be outside tonight doing the Happy Dance of Joy.

Hey guys!

Our stuff just got to NVC, hopefully it will be passed through very quickly, so that I can have my P3 by the end of the month *crosses fingers*. I was wondering if any of you lovely people who have received the P3 recently happen to have a copy of the checklist so I can get everything all ready. I have most of the stuff , police checks, birth cert, etc etc but I was wondering about the forms they are asking for now as someone had mentioned they changed. Are they still asking for the DS-156/156k as well as the DS230 and the 160, or are they just asking for the 230 and 160? I have my 230 already filled out so I can send it back immediately, but wasnt sure if they still want the 160 as well. Any help would be much appriciated!

well i think you can find the checklist here on VJ in Wiki I think.

All forms can be found online and they are the lastest versions

As far as sending something to Montreal, it's not possible as you need to send the checklist....so you have to wait for it, unles your packet gets lost in the mail, but that another story! I wouldn't send anything before knowing that my file is out of NVC...I was stuck there for what seemed an eternity! Good luck!

The only checklist I have found is the one for vancouver, but I've read somewhere that they are doing the 156/156k instead of the 160 which montreal is using...just didnt know if montreal is still asking for the 156/156k as well as the 160. Wasn't planning on sending anything until I have my P3, just getting ready for it as I have nothing else to do with my time at the moment. :D

I'll try to remember for you!

The police certificate, long form birth certificate with parental information, passport with at least a year of validity left on it, divorce certificates (if applicable) and then you need to fill out the form DS 160 online (print 2 copies of the confirmation page, then the entire transcript), and fill in the DS 230 and the checklist and to sent back to the consulate. That's all you will need at this point! The DS 156 (if they're still using it) and the DS 156K are to be filled out and brought with you to the interview. When you get your packet 4 interview letter, they will tell you what you need to bring. Based on what I've read recently, they stopped asking for the DS 156, but you still need the DS 156K, which is a form that is signed before the interviewing officer affirming your desires to move to the US, marry, and comply with the laws and regulations that you're subjected to. So, don't worry about it for now. If you're a person who is insanely over prepared (like many of us!) then I'd fill out the DS 156 just in case, it doesn't really take much effort.
