To much information be passed around here...Lets try again, one person says its not needed, another says it is and yet another says to go to the NSO office and get something else. Umm my wife already has NSO copies that are certified of her birth cirt and our marriage cirt. If I am understanding this correctly, she wont need the CENOMAR being we are married? It doesnt make any sence that we could be approved to be married in the Phils if my wife was already married...i'm confused even more now.

I believe with what you said that we, married couples, should not be needing this cenomar or marriage index! because that is the primary requirement when we got married.. but the thing is US embassy has no trust on our documents anyore, they want double proof...!... that's why they require document like this .... If I were you, I'll get one in NSO to avoid visa delays.. We are in IR1 category and we were asked to have one...

Apparently it is now a requirement by the CO as experienced by MJ3lasvegas in another post. Due to the backlog of document verification by the NSO, the Manila US embassy has somehow "waived" the DV process though the website has somewhat conflicting instructions. Even calling the Embassy will give you conflicting answers.

If you are married and request a CENOMAR from the NSO, you will receive a CENMAR or a certificate of marriage instead. Note that this document is different from the certificate of marriage as the latter is a certified copy of your marriage contract obtained from the local civil registrar's office which is also titled as the certificate of marriage. The CENMAR document is actually based on the marriage index being maintained by the NSO and indicates that so and so was married to so and so on this place and that date.

Like what Haole mentioned, just get it and bring it to the interview. That document costs around US$8 to get it online if ordered from the Philippines and it can expedite the approval of the visa. Would you rather wait weeks or even months after the interview prior to getting approval of the visa if this indeed is now a requirement or spend US$8 just to be sure? :)

Ahh alright. Does anyone know how long it takes to get it from NSO? Thanks for clarifying.

I would like to know the difference between IR-1 and CR-1? thanks.

my husband had interview last Oct 8, I thought he got only pink slip because he said our DOC VERIFICATION is ok... but then he was telling me about Cenomar??? At first I thought it is the name of the seminar that he needs to do after visa delivery (sounds familiar- I knew I did this beofre) but then.. I researcehd about it and asked MRS. HOOKs who happened to be online..and to my suprise, Cenomar means certificate of no marriage that we need to apply in National Statistics Office... My husband right away applied for this cenomar for both of us yesterday. It took 3 weeks for it to be released. It is a good thing that we are really not in a hurry to get the visa because I will be spending 3 weeks in Manila this Nov.. but I think US Embassy should be clear about their requirements, like this cenomar.. for me, it is really absurd to require for this document because before we got married in Catholic Church, cenomar is one of the primary requirement! I think US embassy do not trust anybody anymore.. It is a sad thing because almost all of us become victims...

Hello MJ3lasvegas!

How can you get a CENOMAR if you're already married? If I apply for one, will I use my maiden name? I'm confused. hehehe. Well I am still in the early stages of NVC processing but it does not hurt to be prepared. Thanks.

[/color]

just fill out the GREEN FORM if you're to get it from NSO serbilis centers but if you're requesting it online, just fill out the request form on CENOMAR. as i have repeatedly mentioned in my previous post, it will NOT yeild that you are single, instead it will show the marriage you have contracted here in PI.

request for the CENOMAR and you will see what i mean..and with regards to what family name you are to use, use your MAIDEN NAME. :innocent:

CENOMAR is seldom asked for at the interview for married couples. I've never seen it asked for married couples on a US embassy site.

Good thing to have tho as it does show your recent marriage and any others the filipino had.

At my wifes interview approximately a month ago it wasnt asked for. So I wouldnt worry too much if you cant get it before the interview. If you can the yeah its best to have with you then not to have. But if you're married it most likely wont be asked for.

this serves true for those previously interviewed (before october) but if you noticed the new trend, the DV has certainly been set aside (not sure if it's temporary since the revised IR, F and E visa category interview instruction does NOT mention DV) and the applicants married or not is asked for CENOMAR/MARRIAGE INDEX.

i'd definitely say GET IT when you can..and get it soon.

see what i mean guys..it doesn't matter weither your visa is marriage based or not, THEY WANT OUR CENOMAR/MARRIAGE INDEX..so let's give them what they want. getting the document is CHEAP, waiting under AR due to missing CENOMAR/MARRIAGE INDEX is pain in the ***.

we just shared it so you guys benifit from our experience..if you think you guys don't need it, DON'T GET IT..but never tell us we didn't warn you.

Hello again MJ3lasvegas,

Thanks for the reply and thanks for explaining it as well. They just want to make sure that I am only married to the person who sponsored me to go to the US. I will just probably get it online since you know how it is in NSO. hehehe. Thanks again!

Best regards,

Ynatots

ok guys i went to the NSO office today. even after marriage, we can get a cenomar. its called the CENMAR ( certificate of marriage) and this is different from the marriage certificate. a cenomar ( certificate of no marriage ) is for those who are single. the CENMAR will show that you are married to who etc etc etc... so i would advise everyone to just get the cenomar or cenmar ( just go to your NSO office and they will know what to give you) to avoid any delays.
