Some turn violent in march to GOP convention

At this point of the Iraq war, with things going the way they are and Anbar province having been handed back to the Iraqis, are "no more war" and "get out of Iraq now" slogans really appropriate?

What exactly are they hoping to accomplish? Oh yeah there were 3000 protesters out there saying end the war so NOW John McCain will stand up and announce to the delegates that he plans on taking the Republicans in a totally new pacifist direction. 5 years of a steadfast decision through the deadiest times in Iraq putting their political careers in possible peril has not wavered the party and yet now, a couple thousand protesters are going to force them to adopt the position of immediate withdrawl.

What's the matter with me? I'm looking for some logic here.

At this point the most prudent "protest" on this issue should be made at the polling booth. You would think...

Still 2000 people isn't a particularly large protest compared to what we saw in 2003. I'd say this is just a hardcore of militants within a handful of die-hard protesters (dare I say - nonviolent extremists).

Not surprising really - once the majority of people accept the situation (and I think most have), you're always going to be left with the hardcore...

I think the numbers of the actual march were 10,000-15,000, and the anarchic subgroup was 300 or 400.

I think the numbers of the actual march were 10,000-15,000, and the anarchic subgroup was 300 or 400.

Nationwide that's still not a particularly big number - compared to the furore (not just in this country) in 2003.

It does of course speak to people's dissatisfaction with the current administration
