Hello All,

I went to the SSN office today with my wife (K-1 Visa Holder) was able to apply for the SSN.

But I was a little confused of the name given by the SSN Officer.

For example:

John Joe Doe (husband name)

Ann Smith Doe (new wife name)

Ann Jane Smith (fiance name)

The SSN Officer told us that we need to use Ann Jane Doe instead of Ann Smith Doe as my wife's name for her SSN.

We didn't want to argue with the SSN Officer because he pointed that out.

My wife's passport says:

First: Ann

Middle Name: Jane

Last Name: Smith

US visa says:

Given Name: Ann Jane

Last Name: Smith

Jane is my wife's mothers last name

Smith is my wife's fathers last name

Anyone have any thoughts.

I guess that's the way it is here... your wife cannot drop her mother's last name and use her maiden name (father's last name) as her new middle name (like the way they do in the Philippines). That's how my name goes here but it was more of like my choice to be that way. I had figured it out that since I only have a single name - Cristina instead of Cristina Marie or Cristina Anna like other women - might as well maintain the middle name (mother's last name) that I have been using all my life since that's the way it is on my passport and visa.

Here's how my name goes:

Husband: John F. Doe

Me: Cristina Santos Doe (married name)

Single name: Cristina Santos Reyes

All my IDs and documentations are on my married name like my GC, SS card, bank account, etc...

hi mine is like this:

my full name: Primie Galenzoga Romano

husband: Ryan Mark Combs

my name now.. Primie Romano Combs ... (i did not dropped my father's last name)

In Phil id, my name will be Primie R. Combs but here :o Primie Romano Combs (my middle name is Romano) im like a guy and a girl now here in US... coz they used their middle name here like the second name in Phil.. (and also they always put Romano not just R.; like my state id, cellphone bills, credit card, ssn, etc)

like RYan Mark Combs (Mark is his second name in Phil but here it's his middle name)

oh well, it doesnt matter :) as long as we will be consistent in our form, documents etc...

Anyways, big congratulations to Fayanne for getting her SSN.. at last :)
