Overstay?

Hello fellow canucks!

I have a few questions and hopefully someone who had a similar experience can answer, there is a long lead-up to the questions so bear with me.

I entered the US with my wife and infant child on July 11th, 2007. For some unknown reason they stamp a B-1 in my passport as well as on my I-94. They gave me an expiry date of August 31, 2007 due to the fact they thought i was coming and going too much.

We had already filed a I-130 on my behalf while my wife was a PR, this was taking a darn long time she became a citizen and we jumped to anohter long like for me to go and apply for AOS.

Before filing for the AOS my lawyer (i should have gotten a differnet one but that is besides the point) advised me to file I-539 to extend my B-1 samp on my I-94. so we did. i recieved the extension dated until February 29, 2008 on March 1, 2008 ( i recieved the notice 1 day after it expired).

So right now, i have recieve my AP (it's in front of me as i type) and my EAD card is in the mail. And i know the GC is coming soon.

SO finally my questions are: I want to travel back to Canada to see our family with my child and my wife in July. I already have an expired I-94, who do i turn it into when i depart? should i even depart with an expired I-94? If i do depart how does the US border know when i departed? so how would they know if i overstayed? or is this even a problem and i shouldn't worry about it?

Thank you in advance!

Scott
