My wife did arrive in the US during the 2007 and were married before the year ended. We're looking at filing 2007 taxes jointly and are curious about what others might have done priorly in this situation. Are there possible tax breaks with the immigration process and any subsequent money spent in support while still countries apart? For filing jointly do we need tax records from her home country and just convert it into US currency?

She was a employ of the Philippine government up until her departure for the US in November. Tax records are no problem to acquire. Interesting part is the conversion rate. The Philippine peso has gotten stronger over the past year and we've got to figure out how to switch the whole taxable year to US currency.

What are your experience and suggestions? Anyone with some proper tax experience would be very helpful. I'm pretty expectant of this tax season as there are important things to be paid for. Thank you for your time.
