Consulate Review: Nigeria
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 1, 2011
Embassy Review : I woke up at 4.30am on this faithful morning of Feb.1. I prayed, had my bible study, and went through my documentation again to be sure i was not missing anything. I left the house at 6.30am(my interview was 10am but i did not want to take chances). I boarded a taxi from Ketu to the Consulate@N1,500. While on the third mainland bridge at about 7.45am, the taxi developed a fault(can you believe that!), and driver had to push the taxi all the way to Lagos Island. I was furius but thankfully i had enough time on hand. I was able to change taxis and did finally arrive at the embassy around 9am. I paid N100 for the plastic chair i sat on while waiting for the 10am appointment to be called. The 10am queue was called at exactly 10am, but we stood on the queue till 10.10am before they opened the gates. We were asked to open all sealed envelopes and when i walked in and submitted showed my appointment letter, they went through the list and told me my name was not on the list of appointments for the day. That was the beginning of my fears. They said my interview has probably been rescheduled and i was not contacted. I objected and insisted that i have an appointment letter and i did not receive any e-mail re-scheduling my interview. They finally added my name to the list with a blue pen and gave me tag no. 50.

When i got inside, i immediately used the restroom as i was really pressed. i was called to a window were a young black lady requested for 1)3 passports, 2)copy of my birth certificate, 3)copy of my marriage certificate, 4)my medical results-white envelope + vaccine records and my int'l passport. I was asked to sit and wait for my interview.

there were 4 COs interviewing for the day(3 men and 1 lady). I prayed not to be interviewed by the lady as i noticed that the men were really very polite and professional. I also noticed that none of the poeple interviewed before me were for CR1 or K1, so there was no prior interview for me to learn from before my interview. I was called to Window 8 at exactly 12noon, The CO was a young black guy. He asked the following:

CO: Who is petitioning for you?
Me: My husband
CO: What is his name

CO: So, how did he now contact you after he travelled.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
