A lot of stress over nothing! First off, the K1 visa is for my fiancee, but I went into the embassy with her. We had an 8:30 interview time and arrived at 7:50, and there was already a line of about ten people waiting in front of the embassy. A woman with a printout of scheduled interview times was standing outside ensuring that people in line with earlier interview times were accepted into the embassy first. After everyone with an 8:00 and 8:115 interview were already invited into the embassy, she called out to us. My fiancee showed her passport, DS-160 confirmation page, and appointment confirmation printout. I was allowed into the embassy without any paperwork because of my US passport.
Inside we were told to approach window number 13 in the Immigrant Visa section of the embassy. I was with my fiancee the whole time, by her side. There, a Polish official asked my fiancee to produce her medical exam results, her appointment confirmation, her police records, her photos, her DS-160 confirmation page, as well as our I-134. It's a good thing I filled this out because the US Embassy website in Warsaw stated "Petitioners may submit the form I-134 if they wish."
She gave us a number and had us wait in the seating area. After about twenty minutes, our number was called and my fiancee had her fingerprints taken. We then were told to wait in the seating area, and after fifteen or so minutes the consul called us up to her window. When I went up to the window with my fiancee, the consul seemed very pleased that I was attending the interview. The consul asked me some preliminary questions like "You travelled from California specifically for this?" with a smile and confirmed that my parents were Polish, that I was born in the US, that I had lived and worked in Poland at the time I met my fiancee. And then the consul started the interview with my fiancee, asked her to raise her hand and swear an oath that her answers would be truthful and also politely reminded us that only my fiancee should answer her questions. The consul was very amicable, smiled, asked my fiancee to describe how and where we met, asked if we spoke Polish to each other (we do), confirmed that we had seen each other since we submitted our I-129F. It was a very stress-free interview. She approved the visa after probably 7-10 minutes. I think if you're a couple who is genuinely in love, have compatible cultures, have all your paperwork, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. |
