AOS Interview went well. It lasted about an hour from the time we entered the building.
The officer split my husband and I up and asked us a series of questions - be sure to practice the practice questions on this site!
The officer could not give us an approval or denial on the spot and said we should hear back from him within a week. Shortly after we arrived home the status on USCIS said "Card is being produced.'
Two days later the status changed to "Card Has Been Mailed" and I received it 3 business days later. |

I had my interview on Wednesday, November 23 at 8:00am.
I arrived at the consulate for 7:40am and there was a small line outside of the consulate of about 8 people. Everyone had their folders in their hands and nobody really had a purse or bag. I seen 3 people get turned down for bringing large size bags and luggage and were told to leave it somewhere and come back.
Once I got inside I was asked to submit my DS-160 form and a lady with an iPad registered my name and gave me a number. I was number 5. After that I went through security, similar to that of an airport and was told to empty my pockets and put everything on a tray. I left my cell phone with security and they gave me a ticket to reclaim it when I was finished.
I was instructed to go downstairs to the basement where a group of 20 people sat quietly. The paper I was given with the number 5 on it had a list of all the documents I would need when I got upstairs. I took the time to sort through and get everything ready while I waited. After 10 minutes a guard appeared and had us line up in front of the elevator, we then went up to floor 19. There was a friendly gentleman who separated the non-immigrant applicants and the immigrant applicants into two different sections.
Once we were seated, they began calling each number about 15 minutes after another. I got called to window number 2 and was asked to provide all the documents listed on my laminated number sheet.
It was honestly fairly simple and I was overly prepared (which is not a bad thing).
Once she went through all my documents I was told I'd be called up again for my interview. After about 30 minutes I was called to window number 7, as expected there was a young friendly gentleman on the other side. I did my oath and answered a couple questions like how I met my fiancé, when do I plan to get married, and what field he works in.
He then opened up a binder and to my surprise all of my photos with my fiancé including our Disneyland tickets and our flight itineraries were there! I smiled and said "those look very familiar!".. He laughed and said, "this is a pretty simple case, you're approved! welcome to the United States".. And then he gave me a white slip of paper which had information and when to expect my visa.
That was it. In total I was there for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. I was expecting to be there much longer. |
