Consulate Review: Manila, Philippines
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 21, 2015
Embassy Review : Fairly good experience but we were lost twice due to incompetent IV greeter and missing “orange girl”

Our interview appointment time was 7:30am and we got there 7:10am. I’d say there were about 40 or so people and we didn’t see many people behind us, so my observation was most of people must be at the waiting area by that time. No regret as we had enough sleep and a good rest. It was 9:30am when we finished our final interview despite we wasted 1 hour at the waiting area.

After the first security check-point we were at the “waiting area” and my fiancee was assigned xx46. Unfortunately queuing number system at the waiting area was not working and one of the IV greeters were calling group of applicants in batch and instructed us to go inside the building. I could barely hear what group of number she was calling, she only instructed the applicants only to certain section of the area. How are we supposed to know when and if it’s our turn if the IV greeter didn’t announce the number loud and tells only to few section of the group??? We basically wasted 1 hour sitting there without knowing we just could’ve gone inside and proceed with our pre-screening with the filipino CO.

Because we wasted 1 hour outside, I’m not sure if we missed our turn or not, but we were instructed to go to pre-screening windows section; though there were many people sitting and waiting for their numbers to be called. Just remember to go to the right side once you are inside. Right side is for the IV and k1 visa applicants.

Once we were done with pre-screening, we were told to go to the step 3 which is biometric scanning and oath taking. Interestingly there were also people waiting for their number to be called but once we sat down, IV greeter came to us and asked why we were sitting when we were told to go to the step 3. lol

Once we finished the step 3, it’s our last and most important part of our interview date. IV greeter told us to sit in the 3rd row, and had 7-8 applicants go wait front of the windows at a time. Basically queueing number board was not being used for today I assumed.

As we approached to the window, we greeted “good morning” but the CO didn’t say hi. He had no smile and somewhat intimidating as opposed to a big white CO with glasses under the window 60 had a very nice to the applicants and a female CO at the window 58 also very nice.

Our interview with the CO lasted not longer than 2 min but I could sense, if you say something one small mistake, he’s very well trained to catch, face a consequences of your mistake.

Once he finished his questions he said “your application looks very good, you guys are approved”

Questions he asked are as follows:

what is your full name?
how did you meet your fiance? was there any mutual friend? did he friend you?
when did you first meet in person?
what month your relationship became romantic?
when did he propose?
how many times has he visited you?
where does he live? My fiancee started with the street number then he interrupts her and said just give me city and the state.
what does he do for living?
then I was asked this, what exactly do you do?
what year did your fiancee immigrated to US? My fiancee didn’t know. then he looked at me and said maybe you can help…

“OK your application looks very good. You guys are approved”.

*** We were not asked to show MRV deposit slip, nor original proof of my citizenship which is my naturalization certificate. They also did NOT ask me to provide divorce decree although I’ve mentioned that I have it with me when we were at the step 2, pre-screening. I-134 was not asked either. We brought a digital image photo album which I created with the Apple’s photo shop, but he only skimmed through 3 photos I had initially submitted. They didn’t even ask to show our chat logs either.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
