Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 8, 2015
Embassy Review : PROS: We were approved!
CONS: We waited, and waited, and waited a lot... and watched people getting grilled in their interviews because the interview booth is exposed. It made me very nervous. They were not exactly organized.

But in the end, the whole process at the embassy was very simple and straightforward. If you have followed the guides and instructions from this forum, chances are that the interview process will be a mere formality.

The CO has asked me four questions:

1) When and how did you meet your husband?
2) What do you do for a living?
3) What does he do for a living?
4) Have you met his family?

And that's it. I was approved. My impression is that he just asked these questions for the sake of it, but that I was already approved from the documents review.

I will write a more thorough review in Portuguese with some tips. Feel free to send me a private message if you have questions.

Aeroporto: Santos Dumont (SDU) - tente ficar no bairro do aeroporto porque é super pertinho do consulado

O layout do consulado é meio estranho.

E ele lia, lia e não me chamava.

Mas o Cônsul me fez as quatro perguntas e me aprovou.

POE Review: Dallas
Event Description
Entry Date : 2015-12-31
Embassy Review : I did my POE at Dallas (DFW) with my daughter. It was incredibly smooth - it took me 30 minutes from the moment I left the plane to doing all immigration part and getting my bags and meeting my husband outside. We were worried about eventually missing a connection because of waiting for the visas to be processed, so he decided to pick us up at Dallas and driving to Oklahoma from there.

But it was a matter of luck, I think - my flight landed 30 minutes before expected, and I think we were the first flight to arrive on that day. It was 4:30 am. From there, I rushed with my daughter to avoid huge lines - we went through the usual "Non-US citizens with a visa" line that we would use before for visiting. It took us some 10 minutes of waiting there.

The first CBP officer was very nice and friendly. When I told him we were immigrating and showed him the envelopes he said "Oh, this is different. I like this!" - I did fingerprints then and he asked us to follow him to the secondary office. We got there at around 5:00 am. We sat down. There were two people already waiting there - they looked pretty stressed out - I am assuming they were trying to come with visitor visas and were sent to secondary. The CBP officer put my envelopes in a queue. The person who was processing it called the two people before me in order, and then called me and my daughter. We probably waited 10 minutes there.

He showed our newly stamped visas in our passports and said "This will be your temporary resident proof before the card arrives to your address". And that was all. He looked grumpy (maybe because it was 5 am) so I decided not to make any more questions and left.

We got our luggage, and when we went through customs I told the customs officer in advance we were immigrating (we had 5 huge bags). The custom officer asked if we had food or alcohol and I said no.

Then he said "Welcome to America"! And that was it. I'm very glad.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
