All paperwork was in place at the interview except for (the petitioner) my fiance's photocopy of his divorce decree. He didn't know he had to get a certified copy from the Los Angeles County Clerk. After he flew to LA to get it (by mail, it would have taken 8 - 10 weeks) and then send it to the Consulate in Singapore, the K-1 visa was issued on 2014-11-05. Phew. |

The RFE was for my husband's latest IRS tax return. We mistakenly thought that "latest" meant 2014 and we rushed to file jointly. He got it done way before April 15. But it turned out that USCIS just wanted the 2013 IRS tax transcript.
Got my Green Card in USPS Priority Mail from USCIS in 1 week from I-485 approval! Didn't need the I 551 Stamp. That never came up during the USCIS interview. |

I freaked out, had to travel because my husband and I have government orders, and so I have not one but two I-551 stamps in my passport. After I returned to California to ask for an additional I-551 stamp from USCIS SF, I discovered two days later that my 10 year Green Card was approved, LOL! |

I had a very good experience at the US Consulate in Singapore. My appointment was at 9:45AM. I got there about a 1/2 hour earlier and brought a book along to read. My number was called and I presented the documents that the officer asked for. The following documents were presented:
1. Passport
2. Extract of birth certificate (I lost the original)
3. Former spouse's extract of death certificate
4. Fiance's certified copy of divorce decree
5. Police criminal background checks for all the countries I've lived in (this took many weeks to get done)
6. Fiance's affidavit of support and accompanying documents (I submitted his W2, his US Government employee record verifying number of years worked; and his bank statement which included the year when the bank account was opened)
7. In addition, I submitted my bank statement of funds available, prior three months
8. Four of my best photographs as evidence of our relationship (the officer was so sweet and kind and I think tired of seeing too many photographs from previous applicants, so he asked for "four of the best photos"!)
After presenting the documents, I sat down, read my book and waited to be called for my interview. I didn't wait long, I don't think, but the previous applicant was trying to start an argument with the interviewing officer. That applicant's behavior was not cool.
When it was my turn, the same interviewing officer was really nice and professional. He checked all the documents again and then proceeded to only ask me two questions:
1. How did your fiance and you meet?
2. Your fiance is a US Government employee. What does his job entail?
Everything was going to be just fine... but both officers did point out that they were going to reject the photocopy of my fiance's divorce decree. They were only going to accept the certified copy of the divorce decree from the County Clerk in California. So I had to get that and submit it to the Consulate via Aramex.
Overall, the interviewing process from start to end took about 3 hours. Apart from my fiance's terrible-ness with getting the right paperwork, everything went very well at the US Consulate in Singapore.
After submitting the last piece of required paperwork, I checked on the CEAC website and the visa status changed from "Administrative Processing" to "Issued" in two business days. Then on the same evening, I received an email notification. I can now proceed to pick up my passport at the Aramex office located at Bstone Travel in People's Park, Chinatown. Sure beats heading out to Aramex in Changi, near the Airport.

I just thought I should update you all that the Honolulu Field Office doesn't necessarily complete AOS interviews in under 20 minutes. It isn't always a cakewalk. Today, I had my AOS marriage based interview and the experience was a little different from the previous reviews (below) for the Honolulu Field Office.
My husband and I got there about 15 minutes early. We checked in, sat and waited for our appointment but it turned out that the office was backed up for the day.
Our officer was very professional and serious. We took an oath. Then straight up, she asked for all supporting documentation proving co-mingling of assets (joint bank account, joint credit cards, joint home ownership and / or joint rental agreement, health insurance, utility bill). This was followed by her explaining to us conditional permanent residence. After that, she proceeded to ask us detailed questions about how we met, which month and year we met, when we established an exclusive relationship; and who proposed / when he proposed. Next, she asked us about our common interests. Finally, she selected a few photographs of our wedding, relationship and family members to add to the file. She asked us to write down the year the photographs were taken and the names of the individuals in the photographs.
This all took about an hour. When she asked me if I had any questions, I just politely asked if my application would be approved. It was only then that she smiled and laughed explaining that she couldn't tell me that there and then. The only clue she gave us was that I should check the USCIS website for status updates and our mailbox for up to 120 days before writing or calling USCIS. Up to 120 days... ugh. We thanked her and left feeling a little uncertain and deflated.
About an hour later and after a Longboard beer and a cupcake, I just checked USCIS.gov for a status update and there it was... "My New Card is Being Produced". Yahoo!javascript:emoticon(' ')
