We arrived around 7.40 for my 8am appointment. My USC fiancé came with me (I just emailed the Consulate to let them know and they confirmed, so his name was added to the list).
As they were not open yet, we waited outside, third in line. By the time the doors for security opened, there was about six people in line.
Going through security was easy, just had to take out all electronics, earphones, cables, turn off phones etc. They told us we should take our wallets in with us. Gave them our bags, got tag, and before we even got to sit down in the ‘waiting area’, the first three of us were called into the next room.
After showing our passports to the officer we were buzzed into the main room.
Took a number and waited about 15 mins and was called to the first window who as normal, asked for the documents “you were asked to bring”, then was told to sit back down again. A few minutes later was called back to the window — everything was fine. Did fingerprints on the scanner.
Sat back down for another 5-10 mins and then was called to another window where a young American woman with an unsmiling face was waiting. My fiancé had come up to the window next to me, and she asked who was accompanying me. I said my USC fiancé and she told him to sit back down, she didn’t need to talk to him.
She had me do my right fingerprints again. She wasn’t too intimidating, just had lack of personal or emotional reaction, flat voice, stern eye contact, unwavering tone of voice etc, as they are probably trained to behave. Didn’t take her eyes off me when talking or listening - probably trying to read my behaviour and reaction to her questions, which were:
Have you been to the US before? How many times?
Have you ever been arrested?
How did you meet your fiancé?
What does your fiancé do?
What do you do for a living?
How will you support yourself?
How did he propose?
What are your plans for the wedding?
What are you going to do in the US?
Have you met his family - what are they like?
Has he met your family - what do they think of him?
What do your parents think about you leaving?
She was looking through my documents in-between questions, like she was trying to think which is the best question to ask me next. As I answered confidentially, unhesitantly and in a positive and friendly manner, there were no issues.
Then she kind of nodded after my last answer, pulled one of the little slips of paper where she wrote my name, and then said something like “your application is documentarily approved” and said something about the visa will be printed, documents sent etc, to which point I didn’t really absorb or remember because I was just so happy about that little slip of paper 
Then she said “we’re done here today” and I asked if she needed my Aus Post satchel and she said no as I had paid online. Not sure how I track the passport return though..but I didn’t want to ask her any more questions!
Now just awaiting the visa/passport/documents in the mail and hoping no issues there!
I did not get the same grilling or cross-examination that another K1 applicant experienced a few days earlier with my USC fiancé there- even though we were anticipating it! Our case is pretty straightforward (no RFE’s, fiancé still employed in US, myself employed in Aus with salary, etc). Was an easy non-stressful experience, by the time we got our things from security and went back down the elevator, it was only 8.50am.
