Consulate Review: Guatemala
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : March 14, 2014
Embassy Review : My interview was at 7:15am at the suggestion of a lot of the other members I got there early at 6:05. At that point you stand in line along with all the other people in the RESIDENCE line and the migration line. You stand in line and the first paperwork they ask you to show is your passport and the appointment confirmation and if you have your medical exam. They give you a little number (I got no. 10) and a little page for you to fill with your name, phone number, email in case they want to contact you. The sooner you get there the faster you will go once you're inside. Once they check you they let you go into the waiting room. When they call your number they ask for all the paperwork that came in the instructions (Partida de nacimiento, antecedantes penales y policiacos, examen medico, ds-160, supplement for k-1, affidavit of support, w2'a and 1040's, etc) I (the beneficiary had everything in order and at hand) handed them in and she briefly asked how I met my fiance, she made a little joke about my fiance's address and told me to wait for my name to be called. They call you again to get your fingerprints and tell you to wait in the same waiting area as before. This is when you have to wait for quite a while... seriously bring a book! but then again if you get there earlier you should be one of the first ones they call. Once they called me again the consular was an extremely nice lady, she asked how me and my fiance met, when did we start dating, when did he propose, and the last time I went to the states. They were really nice, except the finger prints lady, who just seemed furious if you didnt do it the exact way.

POINTERS: have EVERYTHING PREPARED AND IN ORDER. I saw other k-1 applicants and they didnt know where they had the papers they were asking and they wont wait around for you forever. Make sure your fiance understands which document is which so you dont have to come back another day to present it (Someone there didnt present the 1040's and the W2's). If your fiance has been ilegally in the US before make sure to do research to see if she needs any kind of pardon or waiver, this wasnt my case but that was what they were asking everyone else.

BE there as early as possible, you might have to wait standing outside for a little while but i guarantee it will be worth it, I was there at 6:05 got number 10 and was able to leave with the little paper they give you to come back monday 17th to get my visa by 9:15!

POE Review: Atlanta
Event Description
Entry Date : 2014-03-31
Embassy Review : So the experience was kind of strange but easy. When you arrive at the immigration area there is a specific area called the TRIPOD and you head that way, preferably have your envelope in hand so that they can see it. So when I got there I handed over my package and they told me to go sit and wait, after about 15 minutes they called me over to the desk and just asked me my parents name, my fiance's name, how we met and the wedding date. I overheard them saying this was their first k-1 visa processing so they werent sure what to do! finally they just said they would let me go. absolutely no hassle, and i was out of there in less than 30 minutes, (I honestly forgot to look at the time to get a true measurement) but overall no hassle, in time for my connection flight for which i had an hour and 45 minutes javascript:emoticon('') hope this helps anyone javascript:emoticon('')

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
