Consulate Review: Islamabad, Pakistan
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 7, 2014
Embassy Review : Our Interview was scheduled at 7:00 AM at the Islamabad Embassy.

I traveled to Islamabad with my dad (I'm from Karachi). We reached the Diplomatic Shuttle Service at around 5:45 AM. After submitting the bags at the counters, I waited in a queue to buy the shuttle ticket. On my turn, the guy checked my passport and Interview letter, and gave me a ticket for PKR 500. After buying the ticket, we waited for a while, and at around 6:25 AM, they asked us to board the shuttle. The shuttle then drove us to the US embassy through the scenic Diplomatic Enclave. We stopped at a Police check post and were asked to leave the bus and walk through the checkpost. After passing the checkpost, we boarded the bus again, and then were taken to the embassy.

After reaching the embassy, we were asked to wait, and then 2 queues were formed- one for immigration applicants, and the other for the non-immigration ones. I waited my turn to reach the counter at the gate, and received the interview token at 7:01 AM. After entering the embassy, we were asked to go to the finger prints room. There we submitted the 2 passport sized photographs, and were asked to record our finger prints. After that we were sent a counter in the waiting area to submit our medical packet and passport. The guy at the counter also asked for my phone number. After submitting my documents, I was asked to await my interview call. In a few minutes, COs started appearing in the windows, and started calling the applicants and in a few minutes, I finally got my call.

The CO was a very friendly guy. He greeted me and asked me how I was doing, and I greeted him back and asked him the same thing. Following are most of the questions that he asked me (sorry don't remember a couple of them):

1. Who's calling you to the US?
2. When did you get married?
3. How did you guys meet?
4. What industry will you work in the US?
5. Do you have any pictures of you two together?

He then typed some stuff, and said that the system was performing slow (the worldwide Consular database glitch). He then told me that I should get the passport back in 7-10 days, and that everything looked fine with our case. He then congratulated me, and I thanked him. I was so happy :D

I left the embassy at approximately 8:20 AM, and took the shuttle back to station.

I received my visa a couple of weeks later.

An excellent experience overall.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
