Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 31, 2014
Embassy Review : This review for my second interview at the consulate, after I was put on admin processing for 14 months, following my first interview.

Based on my earlier experience, I was well prepared on what to expect. The first thing I did was NOT show up at 6 AM thinking I'd be able to beat the lines. Regardless of if you show at 5 AM or 6.45 AM, you wont know where to line up until the VFS rep shows up and asks to form lines from a arbitrary point on the ground.

Thankfully, the Immigrant visa (IV) line isnt as long as the Non-immigrant one. Also, IV applicants are ushered into the consulate before the NIV ones, so the time from lining up to getting a token is under 30 mins.

First comes the document collection (typically with an Indian person). Since this was my second interview, the documents just consisted of updated versions of civil documents (PCC, Medical). After submitting these and fielding random questions over the names of my petitioner and joint sponsor and my address, I was told to brace for my interview since it would "take a while".

After almost 90 mins of waiting, I was called up to meet the Foreign Officers. Again, since this was my second time, we breezed through the oath taking and fingerprinting. By now, My wife and I had crossed our 2nd anniversary, so the officer confirmed that, presumably to update my CR1 visa to IR1.

The rest of the questions focused on my previous visits to the US. I had visited multiple times on B1 as well as studied their on F1. I was mostly confirming what their records show. No curve balls were thrown. I started to wonder if they were going "soft" on me since they'd put me through the wringer by placing me on AP for 14 months! All in all, the officer was satisfied that everything was in order and asked me to submit my passport as well as my previous passport which contained a valid B1 visa. I was told the interview was successful and I should expect the passport within the week.

All's well that end's well!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
