Comments : Received one RFE and had to send additional proof twice because I had forgotten to include the RFE notice the first time.

Furthermore, some notes:

- If you send bank statements, send multiple. I sent statements roughly 3-4 months apart going as far back as I could.

- When including health insurance as proof, make sure to include proof that it's active and that you're paying for it.

- With my RFE I decided to add a description for why I don't have specific types of proof like birth certificates for kids (don't have any) or mortgage papers (don't own a house, I did include rental agreements though!).

Embassy Review : Interview today. Pretty nervous and the fact that I didn't bring my phone didn't really help either. I missed the train I had directions printed out for, but luckily I remembered how to get to the doctor(same stop, pretty much) so I got there fine, albeit a little later than intended.

When I got there, it was pretty difficult to miss what with the flag and the big gate :D. Not entirely sure what time I got there, but there weren't many people yet. Small "border check" with a metal detector and everything and I was allowed in and directed to go to window 5.

Due to the construction you need to go up a ramp first before going into the building. Window 5 is directly on the right if you get in this way. It's in a separate room from the main room with the first 4 windows.

Got called in by name to the window the lady asked for my papers and patiently waited for me to get everything from my folder(Passport, birth certificate, 7 euro postage, financial papers + evidence, evidence of payment and copies of everything but the stamps and passport, you'll get the originals back). Signed a few things and gave up my fingerprints.

After waiting for a little while I got called to window 6(Got called first, despite arriving last, I guess my situation was easy/quick to handle?). First the guy verified it was really me by asking my full name and date of birth and checking it on my passport. I then had to vow to tell him the truth, which led to a volley of questions about myself and my relationship:

- What kind of work do you do?
- What course did you graduate in?
- Where did you meet?
- When did you start dating?
- When did you get engaged?
- Where did you get engaged?

Finally, he wanted to know if I really wanted to get married and told me that the visa is valid for 6 months and that I have 90 days to get married with it and that I have to get married to the person I told them I'd get married to(Apparently people have actually tried to marry someone else on their visa O.o; ). And with that, he congratulated me with my visa and I was approved and that I would get it in the mail in 7 days.

TL;DR: It's really not a big deal. The people are nice, the public area of the building is pretty small and cozy and it's hard to miss. Just make sure you have everything it says on the checklist they send you.

Rating : Very Good

POE Review: JFK
Event Description
Entry Date : 2012-03-15
Embassy Review : Went really quickly and very hassle free. Got in line as per usual, told the officer I was coming in on a K-1 visa and asked if I filled out my customs form correctly. Then handed over my envelope and I-94 form(Which I had initially forgotten to fill out, hah).

After taking my picture and fingerprints he directed me to the immigration office where I had to sit for a few minutes(No phones allowed!) before my name was called and I got my stamped passport back and I was all set.

Had to pick up my luggage and bring it over to the next flight. Went by the customs officers, with cart and luggage and all, and everything was fine. Got one question about what I had in my bass case and that was it. No questions about the ~$600 of stuff I had declared to stay in the US(mostly films, CD's and a few action figures. Forgot to put my bass on it, funnily enough). They mark your customs form with K-1 as well, so maybe that's why.

So, all-in-all, very hassle free. Only wished I had not purposely done a 6 hour layover. Figured I'd be prepared for if the process took a lot longer than the 30 or so minutes it took, but it was really necessary.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
