Comments : Arrived at the Embassy at 7 am for our 730 appointment. Waited outside, in the cold, until 730 when they turned on the lights and unlocked the door. First thing once we were inside the door was to present passports and proof of appointment/payment.
We were given #1 and sent through security. We proceeded to the basement and had approximately 10 minutes to assemble our paperwork as per the list on our #1 laminated sheet:
Long form birth certificate + copy.
Passport + copy.
Marriage & divorce certificate + copies.
Custody document + copy.
Intent to marry + copy.
Affidavit of support + copy.
RCMP criminal check + copy.
Medical record envelope.

We were then told to proceed upstairs to the 19th floor.
It’s a large waiting room. We waited there until almost 8:00 and were then called up to the window.
The staff member then asked for all the
Documentation on the laminated sheet plus my fiance’s Tax form, letter of employment, pay stub.
We were fingerprinted and then returned to our seats.
Within 10 minutes we were called to the interview room. She asked where we met, when we first met, if we had a formal engagement, where we would be living and then gave us the pink sheet and courier instructions. “Welcome to the USA, congratulations!”

My fiancé attended the embassy with my son and me, but at no time did they ask to speak to him. He was not permitted to come to either the window or interview room. I asked if he could come and she said they prefer not to have the sponsor in the room so the beneficiary can speak freely...this is due to domestic violence and human trafficking.

She also said that it was a good thing that he was in attendance as if there were any questions pertaining to his documents then he could answer them instead of delaying the process.

Processing time today (Dec 20-2017) is 1-2 weeks.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
