Review Topic: K1 Visa

Firstly, parking near the embassy: there is none. Although there is a Waitrose underground car park right next to the embassy, it's only free for 2 hours as long as you're a Waitrose customer. I decided to chance it and parked there. I bought a bottle of water before going to the embassy and then had food in the cafe after so I had two receipts just in case. Advice: I wouldn't risk parking there again, the fine for overstay is £90.

My interview was at 11:30 so I turned up at 11:10 to go through the airport style security. I was the only one in the queue. A lady came outside and took my Embassy appointment letter and passport, disappeared inside. Came back out with a written note on my letter and went through security. I had a bottle of water that I hadn't opened yet and it wasn't an issue.

I absolutely love the new embassy building. Walked inside to another reception area, where I was asked for my DS-160. A bunch of stickers with my queue number were placed on the letter and I was instructed to go up to the 1st floor and seat myself near windows 20/21.

I was waiting for about 10 minutes before I was called to window 21. Lucasz asked me for all my documentation, took my fingerprints and asked me a bunch of questions about who was my petitioner, what visa type and asked for my mobile phone number for the courier I believe.

Sat back down and chatting to a lovely woman also waiting for a K1. She went to the window and was approved in 10 minutes. I was shocked, I was expecting a grilling! But then my number was called. An American lady then asked me to take the oath, held up my right hand and then she took my fingerprints again. (Just in case I'd done a swap for someone else haha) She asked me my name, my fiance's name, where he worked, how we met, what type of place does he live in and what we plan to do for our life together.

I actually financially sponsored myself. I gave in a bank statement and proof of where the money came from. I did not give in an I-134 or tax documents from my fiance. All she said was that my documents were in order and then told me that I was approved and that my visa would be with me within 2 weeks. I stood there in total shock and she laughed. I said thank you so much and skipped outside to call my fiance!

I was in and out within 45 minutes!

Good luck to those reading this with your journey.
