Review Topic: IR-5 Visa

We were at the Embassy an hour ahead and joined a long, but well managed queue. We had to drop off at a local pharmacy, our small overnight case (Charge £5) as luggage can't be brought into the reception and waiting areas. Our interview letter was accepted at reception and a ticket number issued. Some 25 interviewers were in attendance. The first interview took place at 8.45am (our appointment was for 8.30am) and dealt with all paperwork and medical records. The process included the taking of all fingerprints and the handing over of an additional passport size photograph. On completion some documents including chest x-rays, were returned and passports taken. The second interview( with a different interviewer from the first) was completed by 9.50am during which we had to take the oath and have our fingerprints taken for a second time.

The questions posed at the second interview were:

(1) When did we plan to enter the US? (mandatory 6 month time limit from date of chest x-ray.

(2) Who the sponsor was (family relationship) and their occupation?

(3) Where we would be living in the USA?

(4) This question was addressed to us several times 'had either of us ever been refused entry to the US under the visa waiver scheme?'

(5) Addressed to your mum 'had she ever been to Colorado?' This appeared to be a random question, designed to measure response reaction.

On completion of the interview we were informed that the interviewer had accepted our applications and that our passports complete with visas would be returned via courier (as previously arranged) within 14 days.

Overall the Embassy process was dealt with on a professional and courteous basis.
