It is with peace in my heart and great gratitude to God that I come here once again. The last time was for my mom.
My husband went for his interview yesterday 04/19/2013 and ALL WENT WELL( yes, APRROVAL!!).
Let me start by saying that for some reason, i was void of any anxiety or worry the few days before yesterday. Maybe it is because I noticed hubby was already in, way over his head with all of that.He was even delving into areas that i felt was way out there and no CO will ask about. I had to start calming him down by saying baby, there is no big deal with these interviews, just see it as a conversation with another individual, smile and be confident with your answers. He said he went blank at the embassy and was having severe headache just before they called him so he had to start praying LOL. I teased him that it is because he already loaded his brain with too much information.
Anyway,It was raining yesterday and he arrived just before 630a.m for his 7a.m interview. After the security screening outside and all of that,he went in to document collection. The Nigerian lady(igbo) collecting copies of his BC and MC commented on our wedding pic( with our bridal train) which I had sent through NVC, saying "hmm this is nice". Then the wait began for his number to be called to the window. At some point he began to worry they had passed him by. Just before 1pm, they called him to window #16. They had four COs; two heavy built caucasian males, one slim built young caucasian male and a woman who he decribed as "not black or white"(maybe the asian lady?) and was denying just about everyone she interviewed.
The slim built Co called my husband up and greeted him to which he responded and then the interview:
CO: are so and so? (he was struggling with hubby's middle igbo name)
hubby: yes I am ....stated his English first name.
CO:is this your application?
Hubby: yes. Then he took the oath and fingerprints.
The CO then asked him to pick up the phone to respond from then on.
CO: Your wife is over there?
Hubby : yes
CO: How did you meet her?
Hubby: answer.
CO: is she a citizen?
Hubby: yes.
CO:When did she get her citizenship?
Hubby: gave date and yes.( I was impressed cos it has been a while we went over that information). It was God's doing cos he said just before he was called, he had feeling to bring out my naturalization cert and look at it.
CO:When did you get married?
Hubby: answer
Co: when was her first visit?, How long did she stay?
hubby: answer with date. I had visited for abt 10days.
Co: when was her second visit and how long did she stay?
Hubby: answer with dates. I had gone for our wedding and stayed for about 6weeks.
CO: Since then has she visited again?
hubby: No
CO: why not?
Hubby : She is heavy with pregancy now.
Co: I see, good. when is she due?
Hubby: we are looking at middle of june.
CO: So you must be there for the shower right?
Hubby: "That is my desire" and brought out the ultrasosund pics I sent to him to show the Co. he said the Co smiled when he saw it.
The Co then brought out a white piece pf paer and said you are approved go to this address to pick up your visa by friday next week.
he said the Co then asked him if we are paying the green card fee from Nigeria or from US but hubby could answer he said, just make sure you pay and have your receipt before you travel. He then returned ALL our originals(MC and his BC) to my husband.
FRONT LOADING( sending in some supporting docs and pics through NVC) IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT!!! My husband was NEVER asked to produce any other document he had with him not even the renewed police certificate, tax papers , NOTHING. He said while talking to him and typing into the computer, the CO kept looking at pictures and documents in the file NVC had sent down and asked him questions on two of the pics( one we took in barbeach and another we took with friends at the wedding of one of our bridal ladies, two weeks after our own wedding). My hubby is internet 'lazy' so we did not have ANY emails nor too many FB/chats.
TIPS:
-RESEARCH VJ and read people's review from your embassy/consulate
-front load with NVC especially pics even pics in which you appear 'not so beautiful" i sent in pics we had taken with my grandmom and maternal family in the village near the charcoal fire place.'ugly' background but conveys strong message about family awareness and support.
-Discuss with each other and remind yourselves of forgotten details.
-PRAY AND TRUST GOD to give you your perfect date, time and CO.
I am available for questions, if any. God Bless you all.
