The staff at the Immigrant Visa Section in Auckland are amazing! After waiting for months on end to hear from USCIS with no updates in sight, they got permission to process our I130 application for humanitarian reasons, and it was like we had moved to a different universe. They respond to emails within a day, if not 30 minutes, and bend over backwards to help with the process. The interview was just a friendly chat -I was glad I had the opportunity to thank the staff for their help in person. <3

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

We went through security quickly (they seem very nice if you show up with a baby!!) and went straight to the window. The lady came and we progressed our paperwork bit by bit. One thing they asked for that I didn't have was a copy of my CV/Resume. I did however have a copy of my university degree, and my Project Management qualification, so that seemed to suffice. This was all very smooth and easy enough (except for the poor lady and I trying to complete some maths sums without a calculator). The lady was very pleasent and talkative and made me feel at ease. After the paperwork she ran through the process of the POE.

We then sat down and waited to see the Comsulate officer. After a bit of a long wait (but seemed a lot longer as I was worried my csr would be towed!!)we were ushed into a separate meeting room (also a bit of a worry).

The Consulate officer was very nice, and all he wanted to know was how (logistically) we planned to get over there (as we have ... read complete review

Our experience working with the US Consulate in Auckland was excellent. They were extremely helpful in answering our questions and sending information prior to our interview, very accomodating with our schedule and answered emailed questions very quickly - sometimes within hours!

We had our interview at 8:30am so arrived shortly before to go through security checks. You are not allowed to take any electronics into the consulate including mobile phones, have to demonstrate you can drink from any liquids, obviously have passport, appt letter etc. and have any bags/coast x-rayed.

We were the only people there when we arrived so were seen very quickly.
They had our file waiting and then we handed over all the required documents and copies; I-864 plus supporting docs, I-130 (we went to NZ to file everything there), photos, marriage certificate, etc. We were not asked to provide any additional documents/information/relationship proof etc. although we had... read complete review

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

I moved to NZ in 8/2004 to live with my husband while he finished up his career. In January 2006, I called the Consulate on their line for Visa inquiries (not free) and asked if I could file the I-130 in Auckland for my husband. They said yes and sent me the initial package of forms and instructions. I received the package about 3 days after my request. It contained the I-130, I-864, DS-230 & DS-2001 plus a multitude of instructions on how to fill them out, what documents would be needed and how to file it all. Very comprehensive instructions and very clear. We began gathering the documents we did not have and on May 30, 2006 (2 years after our marriage ) we filed the I-130 around 8:15am. If you live in Auckland you can drop in to file the papers between 8-9am Mon-Fri. They are closed on US holidays as well as NZ holidays so check their calendar on their website to be sure they are open.
The Embassy is on the third floor of the Citibank building. This b... read complete review

The story, as told by Matt in an email:

I was 10 minutes early for the interview. The first hurdle was security. They went through everything, took my keys and cellphone off of me, and even made me
drink some of my water. Then I went into the next room which was like a fortified ticket booth. There must have been 10 or so windows, and there was a long line of chairs in the middle of the room. So it was like…

….*……*……*……* (* = window)

CCCCCCCCCCCCCC (Chairs)

…………………………. (Wall)

The guard told me to take a seat, and you just wait for your name to be called out over the loud speaker. After a short wait my name was called, and I wandered up to the booth. The lady was so nice. The first thing she said was that I should calm down because there is absolutely no problem, and that since I have never been arrested, married, or overstayed it was perfectly fine. Then she told me ab... read complete review
