Hi-

When I went for N-400 interview, They gave me a grey envelope when I checked in. Inside the envelope, there was a passport fees sheet. To apply for passport book and card, the cost is $225. There is also an optional service: 'overnight delivery return fee for passport book only' that would cost another $14.85, which I'd like to do. My question is when I write a check, do I just write ONE check for the amount of $239.85 ($225 + 14.85)? And the check should be payable to "DEPARTMENT OF STATE"? Is money order better check when it comes to processing time? What would you recommend?

I am planning to apply them at my oath ceremony.

Can anyone help ?

Yes. You can add up the passport book + passport card + expedite fee + overnight shipping together. You must write a check $25 Execution Fee paid separately or credit card or cash depending on the Passport Acceptance Facility like Post Office, Clerk of Court, Library, etc. (Unless you apply at a Passport Agency) Please note that the $14.85 overnight shipping fee is the OLD fee, the NEW fee for this service is $20.66. Check the Department of State website for the corrected fee: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/information/fees.html

It does not matter if you pay by check or money order. They still need time to cash you check out.

Good luck!

Sorry, you have to pay for the Execution fee, and there is no Overnight shipping fee if you want to apply at Passport Agency. However, you must have emergency reason(s) which require you to travel within 2 weeks (proof of travel must present like flight ticket, hotel booking, etc.) OR you must need US Passport to apply for foreign visa within 4 weeks.

Thank you for the info. I'm waiting for my citizenship and will need my passport expedited since my husband was assigned to work in Germany. If I don't have plane ticket, do you think they will let me use his letter of international assignment that has my name on it as authorized accompany to expedite it? Thank you in advance
