just wondering, I filed for my mother IR-5 was reading documents needed to take to interview at Philippine embassy in regards to tax returns, it indicated that she needed to bring a copy of our tax return (form 1040 and W2's) it didn't indicate if she can just bring tax transcripts, coz that's what I provided. is tax transcripts acceptable or should I make a copies of our w2's and 1040 form? just to be on the safe side?? has anybody used tax transcripts before for the interview? also do I need to send my mother my original US birth certificate? thanks in advance :)

Tax transcripts should be fine. They are actually better that the 1040's and W-2's, as they show what you reported as income to the IRS.

On a side note, I wonder why they even need those. If you apply for student aid, they already know in milliseconds what you or your parents reported to the IRS. I would be surprised if the Department of State does not have that information readily available themselves, but they still require those Transcripts every step along the way to Citizenship.
