Getting a US bank check in Australia?

The K-1 visa says, regarding paying for the visa, "Bank drafts, cashier's checks, certified checks, personal checks (See Check Instructions below), and money orders must be drawn on U.S. financial institutions and payable in U.S. funds."

We are filing from Australia... does anyone know how we can get a money order from a US bank in Australia?

I know some banks have international branches.. Anyone have an idea of how we can do this?

Has anyone successfully filed a K1 while both the petitioner and beneficiary were living in Australia? How did you pay the fee?

Thanks

Hi Kdude1,

we are in a similar situation - USC abroad however we were/are IR/CR1.

For our I-130 I purchased an international bank draft from my bank (Westpac)in Perth. Cost about $30.00. Im sure you can do that at any of the big four. Just make sure the bank completes the file in the recipient line correctly.

I dont know if this following information is relevant or helpful to your K-1 process....By the time we were at NVC I was a little wiser. I had our US based joint sponsor pay the online bills by credit card via the payment portal, and I sent him cash via Western Union. That option saved a lot of time anc courier expense.

Thanks for replying.

So an international bank draft from Westpac was accepted for your application without any problems?

I will have one of those made and send it off. Thanks for the info!

Hi, we got our one from ANZ with no problems. Then everything after that we put money in our US bank account and paid things that way. So much easier ever though ANZ bank was great.
