Hey guys I called the Vital Records from my state to order an Affidavit of Single Status Certificated and ask them how long is the expiration date, but they say there is none for their end. The told me to called the government in Vietnam which is where my fiance is to ask them about the expiration date, so what should I do? I don't know who to contact in Vietnam for this thing. I'm getting married in January, 2012 but I don't want to go to a Dich Vu for it. Because it is too expensive, I want to do it myself. Could you guys guided me through this I know the first step is to called Vital Records from my stated and order for a Single Status Certificated which I did, but they suggested me to contact the country government from where I'm getting married. This part I don't know and I need help with it, does any one know the phone number or how I could contact Vietnam government? Thank you all for the help :D

I don't think there is any document or proof in the USA you can get from the government to have as proof that you are single.... you probably want to wait for others to response to confirm what I said.

the certificate of no marriage records from the county recorder is good for 6 months according to the Vietnamese consulate, but i've also heard some documents are only good for 3 months, so I'd stick with the 3 months. . the affidavit of single status is an affidavit from you, not from the county recorder. In Vietnam, you would need to contact the Justice Department (So Tu Phap) of the province in which your soon to be wife resides. Rules for marriage of each province may differ, for example, some allow power of attorney, others do not.

Yeah I went to dich vu and ask them and they charge me $300 something for the service and that is too expensive. They also told me the document is lasted for 3 month, so since I'm going to be married in January, 2012 then I should order for the certificate of no marriage records or affidavit of single status (they are both the same document I assume?) around October? Also do I really have to contact the Justice Department (So Tu Phap) in Vietnam like Dan_P say? Is there any specific way that I have to do to get this Single Status document? Like before some one told me to

1. Contact Vital Records and order the Single Status certificate

2. Contact the Secretary of State to have the document notarized

3. Send the document to VN consulate in SF or Washington DC

Is this the order in which I should follow if I want to obtain the single status certificated on my own instead of hiring Dich Vu.

No, you don't have to contact stp, you asked who to contact, so I told you. You are missing things, read the threads I linked to above, it will tell you what you need to do. After reading it, if you still have questions, then please feel free to ask.
