  1. He checked today June 21. In almost 2 years time prices have shot up!! He got two tickets one for him and his daughter. They were about 700 british pounds plus each ticket was 200 in taxes for each ticket!! We both searched hundreds of sites, mostly cheap tickets.co.uk, etc. Nothing at all below 700 unless it didnt matter when you wanted to go then it was cheaper, but with us it wasn't the case. We both had set dates for vacation and his daughter needed to start college very soon after the trip. Thanks for all your replies. He got his tickets now so a huge relief. Yes it is for round trip. Might get married or just engaged on this visit, issues with co-sponsor who is helping co-sponsor with me.(Jen) Until then he's scared that she'd get hit by a bus or something and we'd be married but apart thousands of miles away. I cant bring him here on my income alone and do need her help. No one else will help so we will be patient till then. Who knows, things can still change. Whether or not we get married now or later will change which visa to apply for. Thank you for letting me share with you. xx

  2. Is there a best time of the week to look for airline tics? I heard someone mention Tuesday's is when they have the best deals. Am I right? Needing to find some tics asap and prices have gone up, it's unbelieveable. My Barry is coming to visit me June 30, 2011 and we need to get a good deal. He is bringing his daughter along for the visit.

    Anyone pls.

    Thanks a whole lot.

  3. Thank you for yer quick reply. I told him I'd look into the CR1 and have sent him the guide on VJ for the different visas, and info from the USCIS website. VJ is most helpful and the members too. Is that the route you took?

So if we would go this way then he couldnt come into the states until the cosponsor? You thought I was ok income wise? I think I am too.

I just want to get this started since it will take months to get done.

    Cheers

  4. I meet Barry 1 year and 8 months ago. We want to do the fiance visa, but also looking into the CR 1 visa. He will be visiting me in July. November 2011 will be the 2 year cutoff of the requirement to have met in person. We want to get married, yes. But would it be easier for us to get married when he visits this summer and when he goes back home, I file a CR1 visa, or the fiance visa. Decisions, decisions.

What I want to know is which is easier? Is the CR1 income requirement at 125% right away, more strict. I know he would be a permanent resident right away and he could work.

With the fiance visa we would get married within the 90 days required and he could stay here while he adjusts status to be able to work.

Anyone with experience with either, and did you have this decision playing in your head like mine is now?

I do have a cosponsor but her helping us is taking longer than expected, and its doing my head in. At this point I can petition for Barry on the fiance visa, but when I help him to adjust status, I don't meet the income requirement for the 125%. I only have a retirement/stock funds/401k combined worth about 6,000 plus I make 26,000 average a year not including all the overtime I do on a weekly basis. I do get child support (6,000 a year) but that soon will be cut in half since my eldest child turns 18 in August.

At this point we don't have anyone else to co-sponsor, can't convince my sister to. Having him meet the family when he visits to convince her, maybe.. So we are in limbo now  and getting frustrated.

    Kinds comments please.thank you all. (F) Cheers <we are a household of 4 btw>

  5. No. You file the petition first. The affidavit of support comes later in the process.

From what you've said about your income you will not qualify. You will need a joint sponsor both for the visa to be granted and again at the adjustment of status. Your joint sponsor will stand on their own income and must qualify for their household plus the intending immigrant(s).

Thank you for your response. I understand it better now. Just wanted reassurance.

  6. The joint sponsor needs to cover their household plus the intending immigrant. Your household count will not come into play with the joint sponsor's affidavit of support.

Wouldn't I need to make enough income for 7 when I actually file the petiton? I have a co-sponsor just waiting for her go ahead. (she needs to sort out her life first, then she is helping us.) Maybe I'm overthinking this? Thank you for your answer and the links.

  7. Hiya all,

This question might have been posted somewhere, but this query is unique to me. I think I know the answer, but need input to know if I'm right.

Ok I am sponsoring my fiance, right. It's also my two children and me. That's 4. Plus I am still reponsible for 3 more people from ex's family that I co-sponsored previously for a total of 7. Correct?

Ok, I have a co-sponsor who can help me bring my fiance here to the U.S. My co-sponsor has two children, so that would make her household 3 + my fiance to make four. Am I correct? It's her household plus the immigrant correct? So I would need to cover for 7 people, and since I'm short on that I have the co-sponsor. So all she needs to follow to help me is to count her household for 4. I think I will need to file with my co-sponsor when I file the petition and when later my fiance adjusts status? :help:

    Thanks for any responses. xx

  8. Sorry to jump in this thread, since I originally did not ask this question. What exactly does it mean certified copy of divorce decree. All I have is a 20 page documents with judge signature. Basically everything that was settled in my divorce. Do I have to get a "special certified copy" from the court house? Again sorry for jumping on this thread, but I would like this answered as well.

  9. Nobody needs to become a US citizen. The "moral" implications of becoming a US citizen aside, some people just won't do it because they would not want to lose their original citizenship. Countries like Saudi Arabia would put a crossbow on your head, India, Russia, Denmark just take away your citizenship, Germany and Austria as well unless a special permission has been obtained, and then there's Canada and the U.K. where everything is so happy happy sunshine sunshine, that it takes a certain degree of mental retardation not to file for US citizenship as early as possible.

If the people you are sponsored are from the Kingdom of the Queen, they will become US citizen as soon as possible.

The three I co-sponsored (2004) were from Mexico. My fiance I'm petitioning for now is from the UK. He can't wait to be a US citizen that's for sure. Those three I'm still accountable for even if they married, and are working and supporting themselves. They could of applied for citizenship three years ago. They just needed a kick in the pants to worry, since I was asking about their statuses, they worried I'd ruin their status as permanent residents.

    Thank you for your reponses,

That was my rant, thank you for listening.

  10. Thank you for all of your quick responses! I put this question here, as I didn't know where to post it.

Spoke to ex niece via email, and said the other 2 are studying for citizenship. I know it will be a matter of time. I won't wait for them. Still waiting on an answer from my co-sponsor. I hate being in limbo like this. My fiance hates not knowing either. He will be visiting me in July, thankfully. We miss each other so much. At least we have that to look forward to. I am also going to introduce him to the family. Maybe it will sway my reluctant sister into co-sponsoring with me. Have to wait and see.

I knew this journey wouldn't be easy, but it's worth waiting for the one you love. (F)

    Cheers,

    Jen (& Barryxx)

  11. Hi, hope anyone could answer this question for me.

I co-sponsored 3 people about 8 years ago. They are all working and 2 are married. My question is how long can they be a permanent resident before they must apply to be a citizen? Can they be a permanent resident idefinitely? I also divorced my now ex husband. I co-sponsored with him. Yes I know that doesnt release me from the obligation. But i just wanted to know how long they can be permanent residents before they are required to apply for citizenship....or if there is a timeline for this.

    Thank You

  12. If there's an IRS lien, it's a separate issue. She'll know whether, (in the present tense at the time the affidavit is evaluated) there is one or not. If not, no problem. If yes, it will need to be cleared up by payment, a payment arrangement and documentation of not only the arrangement but that the payments are being made. If she's current on paying taxes, it's just not an issue and wouldn't be until she was at least a couple years behind.

ok, thank you. Don't think there is any issues with that.

  13. I have a friend who actually wants to co-sponsor with me to get my fiance here on a K-1 visa. She is filing bankruptcy, going through a divorce etc. Bankruptcy is her only way out of her situation.

My question is, when she files bankruptcy, can she still co-sponsor with me? Will this be a problem? Or should we wait until her case is finalized?

Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thank you

  14. I would be calling USCIS, asking to speak to a supervisor, and see if they can guide you to find out if YOU were the sponsor of those three people, or if your ex husband was.

I did call the uscis and they said i had to list them, until they become citizens, die, leave the us, or have 40 quarterly hours equivalent to 10 years..

So my household is going to have to be put down as 7 even if i dont support them, they don't live with me, and I divorced. My niece or ex rather did email me to tell me that all three are permanent residents. I wasn't the main sponsor, I was the co-sponsor. Thank you Rebecca for your reply. I am going to keep trying for a co-sponsor. A friend of ours wants to do this/ help us. But she is also going through a divorce and filing bankruptsy since her soon to be ex hasnt worked for 3 years and she supported him and they are coming after her. (credit card companies) My real question is, will bankruptsy bar her from co-sponsoring with me, or do we have to wait until bankruptsy is sorted out first. My fiance and I want to know. SHe also has a lawyer friend that lives next door to her, but hasnt gotten back to her about this question, which he was going to check on.

Waiting is the hardest part...seperation is worst. So we wait for word..

  15. It would help you to read the K1 guide/flowchart so you're sure you understand exactly what will be needed from you and when during the process.

Thanks, have done my research. I have the packet ready to go. Just have to make sure I make enough so my fiance can adjust status later. I have full time employment, 401k/pension. We have a friend that might be able to co-sponsor. If I don't need a co-sponsor, then its ok, but think i might need one.

I make an average of $26,000 a year. I worked alot of overtime this year and end of year paystub says I made $32,000, I get $6,000 a year in child support (oldest child will be 18, August 2011, so am on a timeline),I have 5,000 in a combined 401k/pension/stocks.(all rolled together through work) Does that sound like I still need a co-sponsor? I think I still do. I am saving as best I can, am filing taxes soon and putting any refund in savings too.

I would have a household of 4, me, fiance, and my two daughters. But...I co-sponsored 3 people (ex sis in law and her two kids) in 2003. So I am responsible even if I got divorced, bringing my household to 7. They are all 3 permanent residents only.

    Thoughts? Co-Sponsor, yes?
