  1. Thanks for the list link.

    And for the reassurance.

I do know that i must POE first, then send the appropriate forms (1) The first is a completed CBP Form 3299, 2) the second is a copy of either a validated I-94 or the validated K-1 visa to show that I have entered the US) to the moving company for them to ship.

  2. What items would you be bringing that would be dutiable? Like a wine collection? You may be able to find your answer in this list of FAQ's:

CBP FAQ's - Moving to the US

I plan on using a Moving company, and Im bringing household goods, personal goods. (NO tobacco, firearms or alcohol or medications, no food or animals etc etc). Just my "stuff".

But i read if things are less that a year old (like my Laptop, Printer, Paper shreeder, couple xbox games) that duty is to be paid.

Since i am immigrating/moving (on a K1 Visa), i dont know if processes are different than a visiting trip. I read alot online but overly confused.

  3. Hello everyone,

All this information on how to moving companies, quotes etc etc, to move your belongings to the US While immigrating is great.

However...my concern is regarding DUTY to be paid on certain things, and how that is taken care of (if required).

    Can anyone offer advice?

    Thanks,

  4. Thank you ALL for all your insight and experiences and advice.

I think i have the evidence part covered, and yes i'm probably being over worried.

What is bugging my USC fiancee, is her Letter of Intent to marry, being 6days over the 30days window(as specified on the Packet4 Letter).

I think it will be ok since it's such a short time form the 30days, but she is a bit worried, and wondering if she should send me another letter STAT.

I appreciate you all very much!

    Cheers,

  5. Hello all,

I have some last minute questions regarding Documents, evidence of relationship for my Interview (at Montreal Consulate) coming up December 12th, that I would really appreciate some advice and peace of mind on.

    1) Letter of Intent to Marry form US Citizen - stated in the Packet#4 letter, the Letter of Intent (from US Citizen) must be signed within 30days before the Interview date. What if this is dated 6 days outside of the 30days? (ie: Interview is 12/12/2011, letter of intent (US citizen) is dated 11/06/2011. Will that hinder the approval?

My (beneficiary) letter of intent will be within the 30days.

    2) Evidence of relationship - We do not have phone records as we always use SKYPE (Video/audio when home at same time, and texting when not at home at same time), and Windows Live messenger (when not at home at same time), for all of our communication.

How much evidence do I bring with me? I mean, I have a years worth of transcripts (Live Messenger, Skype - recent screen shots of us Video/audio chatting and chat logs, FB, photos), and that is like over 500+ pages of printouts.

So my question is, how far back and how much do I printout? Should I only pick out excerpts (1 or 2 conversations), per month up to just prior to my Interview? I don't want to OVERKILL the Consulate with a huge pile of Printouts.

    Thank you in advance.

  6. Hello All,

I would like to thank Everyone for all your knowledge and experiences with the K1 Process.

It has helped me tremendously. I have sorted out all of what I needed to do RE Packet 3 (and I apologize for all of my confusion related to this excellent guide).

I have my Interview scheduled for Dec 12TH!! Wooohooo!!

Its the last stretch towards being with my true love :)

Cheers everyone. I will keep ya posted.

    Thanks,

  7. Hello All,

I sent in my Packet 3 last week. Today I received a letter which i thought would be my Interview/Packet 4. It was not.

The Letter stated that I must now send in:

    - DS-160 https://ceac.state.gov/genniv

    - The Confirmation receipt regarding DS-160 form https://ceac.state.gov/genniv"]https://ceac.state.gov/genniv"]https://ceac.state.gov/genniv

    - the Guide for the DS-160 http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_4230.html

    - 2 Passport photos http://travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/visaphotoreq_5334.html"]http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_4320.html"]http://travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/visaphotoreq_5334.html

    - Photocopy of the Passport Biographic page

All of these MUST be sent along with all the other forms (for K1) when sending in your Packet 3.

I dont think this is an RFE, but just missing forms/docs that should have been included with the Packet 3.

    Thought I would share.

    Cheers

Corrected the Guide for the DS-160 url link above.

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_4230.html

    apologies.

  8. Had you not completed the DS160 online previously?

And that's new (or subject to the whim of the person processing) because I did not send passport photos or a photocopy of the passport biographic page! Good to know :)

Yes, I did complete the DS-160 online. Then sent my Packet 3. But didn't send the above in my previous post.

And i had issues on the CSC website to pay my MRV. I emailed them and they sent me the Scotia Bank deposit slip (paid yesterday).

Seems some kinks need to be ironed out in this process and their websites.

    But its a small hurdle.

    :)

  10. Ditto to ALL of the above issues. Bot i didnt try the telephone Payment method yet. I want to do it online. And i can pay in US currency at the interview, but as you all have mentioned, its all very convoluted and frustrating.

    ...sigh.

But I only just finished doing all the forms for Packet 3 today, and sending it in ASAP.

Do I not make the payment now? Or do I have to wait for Packet 4 (Interview Letter) first, then snag an appointment on the CSC site, and maybe then the Payment option on the site will appear?

Cheers to all and good luck. We all need it.

  11. It's okay :P I can't count the number of times I've had confused moments throughout this process! Reading instructions written by bureaucrats all day long will make you go crazy ;)

Lol....i've passed crazy and gone bonkers n beyond! But in a good way of course....in the name of Love :)

  12. Yes, you should do it. I did it as well. If you look at the Montreal website here http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=visas&document=visa_pkt3 it's still a requirement. I had my interview only two months ago and it was required.

At the very least, you won't be harmed by filling out just another form, but the process would potentially be harmed if you were to neglect it. I would strongly suggest you fill it out :)

On the USCIS website link you provided here http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_4230.html it states that K applicants do not use form DS-160, but then right below it says in Montreal they have their own requirements and you should check their website to see what they want- that is you have to fill out BOTH the DS 160 and DS 156 if you go through Montreal. In fact, it looks like that message is there to inform K applicants going through Montreal to fill out the DS 160 as well, because there is often a lot of confusion regarding the forms. I assure you they want BOTH the DS 156 and the DS 160! :P

Remember every individual consulate has its own procedures and requirements in addition to what USCIS outlines. If you were going through another embassy you would not need the DS-160.

This definately settles my concious. I mean, have it 85% filled out...but that one note on UCSIS really made no sense. Yes, i was one of the confused individuals. I was going back n forth and scratching my head worrying what to do. My gut felt I should do it, but my mind was playin tricks...or maybe the butterflies in my stomach...lol.

I greatly appreciate your insight. I can finally move ahead with confidence.

    cheers

  13. Hello All,

I am in the process of doing the forms required for Packet 3 (as per listed above in the Montreal Guide step 4).

I have filled out forms out except the DS-160.

I am doing the DS-160 online right now (as the Link - https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/ - from the Montreal consulate site.

However, I just read on this site - http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_4230.html - that I should not do the DS-160 online if I am applying at the U.S. Consulate General Montreal have different application form requirements. Review information on the U.S. Consulate General Montreal website to learn more. http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=visas&document=visa_pkt3

I feel I am running around in circles trying to figure out if I should be doing the DS-160 online or not?

Im so confused, and this is the last form I need to fill out

    Please help.

    Thanks,

  14. No I beg to differ the answer should be NO as it means has anyone filed a visa petition for you before? They are talking about before this petition so answer is NO unless you have had a petition before this one.

Actually, it does not say "before" but asks "...on your behalf.".

Regardless, im just going to put NO and proceed.

I don't mean to debate it, I just want to make sure I make he right answer.

    I appreciate everyones advice.

    Thanks,

  15. I haven't filled out D-156 yet but I assumed that the answer to #36 is NO. K-1 visa is under non-immigrant visa category.

That may be true. And even though the K1 is under the Non-immigrant visa category, I also read it is considered an Immigrant Visa as well. I cannot petition myself for the K1 visa.

However, there is 2 applications to be filled out. Still confusing really.

I will take the risk and just put NO, as that seems to be the answer for this question so far. I thought I would put my inquiry out there anyways...just in case.

    Thanks,

  16. IF YOU WANT TO WORK AND STUDY THEN YES BUT PUT UNKNOWN for now. 27 yes marriage and relocation to the USA and 36, if the answer is no then NO.

I would like clarification on this answer please. "36, if the answer is no then NO."

Technically, the US Citizen Fiancee has to fill out the I-129F to petition for the alien fiancee to be able to apply for the K1 Visa if the I-129F is approved.

So, shouldn't the answer be a YES, and put the US Citizen Petitioner's/fiancee name?

PS - the examples on VJ are not always clear (or could even have mistakes) as everyone's situation is different. So it is confusing at times. But thankfully there is VJ and all the great people on here for advice.

    Thank you

    http://www.visajourney.com/content/examples

Example forms are great for helping filling the forms out.

Well, you see I already looked at the example form, but it did not have the boxes checked for #11. So that is why I thought I would get a second opinion. But you are right, other example forms and everyone on VJ have been a great resource for help and guidance.

    Cheers,

  18. For #10, put the name of your fiancee and the date you filed for your K-1 (or K-1 NOA). Underneath your fiancee's name, put: (Subject of this affidavit.) Relationship is "Fiancee".

For #11, I put "I do not intend to make specific contributions." Since I was going to marry my wife, I was taking full financial responsibility and not making specific payments to her for her support.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you Iowaguy. This helps to clarify.

    best,
