  1. Due to the obscene amount of time it is currently taking for the USCIS to process my AOS I am now in the position where I have to renew my EAD.

So I was hoping you lovely lot could help me out before I send the package...

First off I understand that this will cost me nothing but a postage stamp so please don't worry about that.

My main concern is knowing that I have all the information I need to send to them and a definitive address, as this particular question seems to be surrounded by a barrage of different answers.

So where does it go? Dallas Lockbox? Or Chicago Lockbox? (I live in Las Cruces, NM if this makes a difference)

And here is my current check list for the package:

    • A New I-765 filled out and filed under catagory ©(9)
    • Copy of the I-797c Receipt for the I-485
    • Copy of the I-797c Receipt for the first employment application
    • Copy of the I-797c Receipt I took to my Biometrics appointment for the EAD last February
    • Copy of both front and back of my Employment Card
    • Copy of both front and back of the I-94 that was in my passport

Is there anything I could have missed?

All your help is greatly appreciated in advance.

Going to bump this, as it seems to have acquired a lot of views but 0 replies.

  3. Your EAD and AP can be renewed as many times as you need them to be - free of charge - until your green card is approved.

Simply submit a new I-765, together with a colour copy of the front and back of your current EAD and a copy of the NOA for your I-485, 120 days before your current EAD expires (you're a little late, so you should do this now).

This is fantasic news, as I was afraid it was going to cost us even more money! I can assume that we send this to the usual mailing address? Or to the field office closest to me?

Thank you all by the way for your help and words of wisdom!

  4. I am not sure the OP even applied for EAD and AP because 1. They would be approved by now and 2. It is not in their signature, just the I-485 (written there as I-484).

Your signature says nothing, so what has mine got to do with anything?

I have had the biometrics, I have the EAD, but its running out, in February of this coming year which I stated in my first post. The problem is that nothing else has happened, and when the EAD runs out I will be unable to work legally. I applied for the AOS with everything else a year ago, and have been blanked by USCIS Officials and told to wait, while I look on here and see people beyond my position after filing months after me!

We are all here for the same reason Harpa, everyone has questions, and everyone has answers. And thankfully when ever I see that little Koala, I see some helpful information!

So I ask in future that you ask people things if you are unsure or misread, as "they" are looking at this page for suggestions and advice continuously! And take note that a signature on a forum board means nothing in the grand scheme of things, especially when dealing with the unnessecary stress provided to you courtesy of the USCIS!

  5. When I last called they said they had previously put in a service request, this was begining of October originally! I called back towards the end, and was blanked and reminded that they cannot do anything more at this time, I called again 4 weeks after that... Same answer, and again refused to put in another request saying they will deal with my case when they get to it! I have all intentions of calling again tomorrow to most likely receive yet again the same reply.

I will contact our state senators and see what they can do to help, but still worried as our family business is Tax, and were pretty damn close to the start of Tax season now!

I have also tried to locate an Ombudsman for my area, and having no such luck also, so any advice on this would be appreciated too.

  6. Well, it's been a while and a rocky while at that!

Since moving here to the US things have been far from easy! However we have been waiting over a year for an AOS and have had very little luck talking to USCIS. In fact we started our I-485 last December, 2011, it was moved from Vermont to California in February 2012, since then nothing! Biometrics for EAD that was all. However that runs out this coming February! Every time we call the USCIS we are told that they haven't processed our case yet and there is nothing they can do!

Is there really nothing? Because if I am not allowed to work and things continue to drag along I will be financially screwed for the following year thanks to some unexpected medical costs!

My next question, is that my mother in law... Dangerous word I know, has been doing her very best to make things harder. And it's come to the point where we have considered moving further away, out of state was our first thoughts. But since then we have toyed with the idea of moving back to the UK, however my wife has the impression that we would be penalized and I would be banned from entering the US for up to ten years! Is this true? As I cannot find anything on such a subject!

  7. So, here I am going through all my paper work for the Adjustment of Status from my K1 visa,

One issue, not even on the USCIS website can I find an exact price for the filing that is up to date. It would appear this website has either not been updated since 2007 or the original $1,010 is still correct?

Or is it now $985 for the forms and you pay the $85 got the biometrics on a different check?

Or is it now just $1,070?

And I also found out that it could cost $1000.

Now after having to pay $405 (which was $340 last time I checked a month ago) for another NOA2 (which I never received) from my K1, I'm kinda confused and annoyed, and feel that a tiny kittens life maybe at risk should I even dare to phone the USCIS again! ><

So please can anyone clarify this? As to what the cost is now on this day, from Decemeber 2011?

    Much love <3

  8. Hi, so...

Now I'm here, living in New Mexico. But what to do now, I want to know the best way of doing things rather than have to repeat something again later on down the line.

So do I go out and get an SSN on my I-94, or wait till I'm married? Is it even worth trying to Obtain a drivers permit/license now, or yet again wait till after I'm married?

I'm going round in circles, and I havent even looked in to opening a bank account etc...

    Any advice will be welcomed!

    Thanks in advance

  9. Why some people can't always give the simple answer... lol

    Petition - $350

    Interview - $350

    Police Certificate - $50-130

Copy of Birth Certificate - $30-100

Though both certificates depend on how fast you need them.

You will almost have around $70-100 is miscellaneous costs.

In my instance it has almost cost me so far around $300 in travel costs to London and back for medical and interview.

You only need a total of 5 photographs - 1 for police certificate - 1 of you to go off with the petition - 1 for the medical - 2 for the interview

Estimated packages you need to send - allowing for admin errors (Yes they happen): around 4!

Once your in the united states you need to change your status once you have gotten married.

It is around $1000 for your adjustment of Status - and about $450 for you permit to work.

Not to mention your own cost for your wedding, you will still need to pay the registrar and get the wedding license.

  10. In the U.K it is £35 ($56 US) i assume it is around that price for you also.

I also think you will need to pay for the actual K1 visa prior to the interview.

I am sure there are more experienced people on here but I though I would chuck in my 2 cents!

No offence here - but as UK prices go, you can almost forget that. They have again changed their forms. You have the ten day option which actually takes 3-4 weeks, so if plenty of time go ahead with that, but bare in mind the certificate is only valid for 6 months, not 12 months like they keep saying.

Or you have the two day option, which will cost you around £70 as a base price. This however can be done swiftly and quickly, however the UK ACPO prefer you send it recorded, and pay then to send it back next day recorded, so add another £12.00($20.00 est) to that price then to speed up the process a postal order - these costs about 10% more on top of the price you need the order for..

    Certificate plus

    return postage : £77

    Photos : £5

    Initial Postage : £5

    10% on postal Order : £7.70

Also they change the forms alot, so keep your eyes on them, I know this is for the UK certificate, but really dont wait in getting your certificate too long. It becomes an unexpected cost.

  11. I mailed off Packet 3 - It did not contain the DS2001 form (As I was told not to send this form).

I have my medical booked for the 22nd of this month and naturally I need to arrange an interview, but what do I do? Except ring and call this premium rate phone line a dozen times just to be told "we are experiencing high volumes please try again".

Do I need to resend my packet 3? Or just the DS2001 form now I have my medical date? And does the embassay get back to me about my interview, or do I need to chase them down like we have had to every step of this process so far?

So close yet so far.... I feel I could drown a kitten.... ><

  12. So thank you all again,

I think now I know what I'm doing...

    1. Need to send off the DS230 part 1 - DS-156K - DS156 X 2 - DS157 x 2 together at once now. No photographs needed, no extra documentation needed.

    2. Make a Medical appointment - Gather my need documents needed - IE Birth Certificate, Passport, Police Certificate ETC

    3. Mail in the the 2001 checklist form with a cover letter stating the date of my medical and arrange my Interview...

Or can I take the more simple "less fussy" way...

and just Mail steps 1 and 3 at once - call for a medical today - then an interview a couple of days after?

  13. Thanks for the information guys - very much appreciated!

Though no one has answered about the photograph - do I put one on one of the DS-156's? or on both? Or none at all?

Its all going to good use too - as soon as I have finally got my visa, I will post up a detailed do and dont's of this process. I love their country, I love one of their Citizens - just hate the lack of communication and inability to explain themselves properly without contradiction.

  14. Hey guys...

So as we know this Visa process can be rather confusing and lets face it, at times makes zero sense and contradicts itself! Therefore need a little advice and help from those who have already dealt with what I'm assuming is "Packet 3"

It wasn't quite a "packet" I recieved, more like a letter stating the paperwork I need to fill out and send back to the Consulate before arranging my medical or my interview - I'm assuming this is pack three...

So what do I need to send exactly?

Is it just part 1 of the DS-230 or do I need to send both parts 1 and 2?

Do I need to attach a photograph to either both or one of the DS156's before I send them off?

Do I need to send copies of my birth certificate, passport etc to them with this packet? If so, are copies acceptable and what exactly do I need to send?

My consulate is in London - best get that bit in since everyone has their own rules it seems!

    I thank you in advance!

    Onyx

  15. Are we all going to live in Texas? (I know not all of us, but sure feels like a lot of us are) Baby is a little worried about how I'm going to handle weather changes  Guatemala is blessed with a perfect weather pretty much all year long. (It feels like spring all year long... it can rain a little sometimes but... it's not that bad)

    Random, huh? LOL

Not quite Texas... It will be the land of Enchantment for me. New Mexico - Here I come... as soon as the VSC gets them Hamsters running again!

  16. As with college I plan on attending a 2yr community college at first, getting most stuff out of the way. I might then file after if we're still together (which I hope!). I would love to be a Marine Biologist, and I believe here in Texas, colleges at Corpus Christi offer those classes. So I won't even have to go far from home.

As for him not being able to work right away; when could he begin to apply for a job?

Question I ask is his age also; I'm in my late 20's and already have a degree, but for some reason the US ignore this fact when applying for a job as I technically didn't graduate from "high school". I myself intend to go back to university once my Adjustment Of Status (AOS) has been granted. You maybe unaware of this but education costs almost triple for non-residents.

I suggest if this is serious, and will go ahead his education is also something to consider - This will further more add to cost, but can be a very advantageous move in the life ahead that you both wish to share.

Also should stress that you are both certain should you take this route, as the entire process will take a further three years once he enters the USA on a K1 Visa, longer should he wish to file for duel citizenship in the future.

All I can say is good luck to the both of you, and well done for thinking ahead far enough to start asking questions and doing your own research.

  17. This may have been moved since; but I'm posting here on the K1 Fiance forum. As it seems that it's here where we have the biggest culprit's and the more anxious of person waiting patiently for that tiny change in the VSC or CSC so they can start each day with a smile knowing that they can see they are getting closer and closer to their loved one!

If you don't already know, people find this out via Igor's List!

It may not seem much, but believe me from what I have gathered from the people I talk to it does mean alot. The VJ community is but a small number of immigrants, however we have scattered filing dates everywhere, which are enough to keep us in the know with regards to these service centres.

So all I ask is; for every anxious woman and man out there; let us know when you know - keep that timeline of yours updated. If its too much trouble - don't start one.

  18. Thanks everyone and Twocats, we have those exact same discussions as well as different words and American spelling and pronunciation. He's mostly worried about loosing the NHS and we both know that neither here or the UK is perfect. I try to reassure him that we'll be able to get him health insurance. My company has great individual insurance but a family is $700 a month! . . . so he'll need his own policy. And Matalie, so do you love America?!

Likewise, we had them conversations too, and the fact soon I have to re-learn what I had been taking for granted in the UK, I.E, the different brand names, different types of stores, where to get "this" and "that". Seems basic, but its a big change!

The change in health benefits will be the biggest thing, but the best thing is that any Children we have in the future will have a great life and upbringing - Not only do they get choices of going to the big Ivy League Universities, they also get the bonus of Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial College.

To get a American born child duel citizenship to the UK is easy, well compared to the other way around it is!

  19. He already has plans to go back a couple of times a year to see his family, as that's really the only thing he'll miss. That, and what he considers to be 'good' tea. Even when I buy him British tea, he complains that the milk isn't right here.

I agree with the tea! Your milk is super ultra mega treated, the stuff has an expiration date of a month plus, compared to the week fresh milk in Britain has.

Our reasons are simple, Inari is still finishing her second degree, she is very family orientated and they are a tight unit. Myself on the other hand is that I am not so close to my family, also for some reason the US fail to take notice of my Degree, therefore I have the change to go back to school to learn something new.

I feel more at home in the US than I do in the UK, even if I do stand out quite a bit!

But ultimately we love one another, therefore someone has to make the sacrifice, in this case it was I, my only fear is getting used to the new wildlife - Black Widows, Brown Recluse's, the Scorpions, the Diamondback, the various biting beetles and so on! lol
