  1. So this is last minute, but I keep running in to issues with my taxes. I was trying to just do married filing separately, but TurboTax ran into some errors with things I put in, plus I couldn't claim my student loans and other deductions while filing separately. Can I put my husband as married filing jointly if he has only lived here since October? Is he allowed to file taxes if he lived here for a little less than 3 months before Dec. 31st? He made no income in the US last year, but had some foreign income. Can anyone help FAST! haha

  2. My Husband arrived on an I-129F visa in October and we got married right away and moved in to an apartment. On the I-129F I put my parent's address as the place we would be residing, but now we are living at a new address. We are in the process of filling/filing the I-485 package and my question is if we should have submitted a change of address form already? We just figured that we would put our new address on all of the paperwork we are doing now, but now I'm not sure if, within that grace-period, we should have done an official change of address. Any response is helpful :)

  3. So I have a question for those of you that have been processed through the NVC. What happens once they scan or enter it in to the system?

do they request any additional information or do they just assign you a case number and then forward the application to the country's embassy?

The reason why I'm asking is because our application has been approved and should be on its way to the NVC. July 26 will be 15 business days from NOA2.

I will be leaving to Vietnam in 2 weeks. we will have our Dam Hoi "Engagement Party" in 4 weeks I'm hoping that everything will be forwarded to Vietnam before i leave... "Hoping" that I'm not asked for any additional information in the mail while i am in Vietnam!

I have all my financial documents ready to prove that I can support her financially but not sure when they will ask for this??

Can anyone share what i would expect from the NVC?

    Thanks in advanced

    Anthony

The NVC just forwards it to the embassy in your fiance's country. For my fiance and me, we waited until we got notice from the NVC in his country. This was the "packet 3." That will instruct you on what to do next, but the NVC shouldn't request further information for a K1 as far as I know. (For us, they asked for the I-134 to be ready before he turned in his packet 3; however, he doesn't really need the affidavit of support yet... they just want to make sure it is ready for future things...)

  4. We're only a fragment of the way through, but so far it hasn't been that hard of a journey thanks to VJ. (who needs a lawyer when you have these great online resources!) I have to admit that I got a little impatient while our packet was at the NVC, but I was just very excited, haha!!! I hope the rest flies by just as smoothly!

I was reminded of this quote today and just felt that it was appropriate for this thread... "When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around" ~Willie Nelson

  5. Good Morning All..Congratulations on your NOA2..I received mine July 11th, and now it's on it's way to the NVC. Any idea how long it will stay at the NVC before it's sent to the Embassy? Just curious..Our Journey has passed a big step, and we are close to being with our love..GOD BLESS YOU.

Congrats on your NOA2!! It is all luck like the other person said. I received my NOA2 on June 10th. The NVC didn't receive it until last week. Once they have it, they shouldn't have it for long though. Hopefully, since you had a different service center, yours will be received quicker by the NVC.

  6. Call up your embassy. I did have the same problem as you and it turns out my petition was already at the embassy, even tho i heard no word from NVC for a month. USCIS sent my petition to NVC on june 7th. It seems that everyone from start to mid june has this problem. So just call up your embassy, im 90% sure your petition is there already. They do process it at NVC quite quickly, but they are late with sending NOA to you. So call up your embassy, your petition should be there already.

Did you ever call the NVC throughout that month of waiting? Cause a lot of us have been calling and have been told by workers there that our stuff "has not" or "just was" received by the NVC. I haven't received any actual notice from the NVC yet, but because I called I now know that they just received my NOA2 after a month... the embassy doesn't have mine yet (hopefully soon though :) ); the NVC still has it.

  7. Please don't flame me for posting the following but I'd like to point something out to those who were approved in June time frame above and have waited less than 5 months between NOA1 and NOA2.

CSC is already fast enough in approving these petitions. There is a slight delay in getting these approved petitions to the NVC. I know the timeframe is a bit out of normal. I don't think its completely out of the ordinary for these applications to be forwarded to the NVC with a delay.

Bottom line is that up until a few months ago (when I filed), I was ready and prepared for a 6+ months time between the NOA1 and NOA2. Its alway easy to gripe about something than to be patient. I think if we all show a bit of patience even while dealing with these delays, it will make the journey that much more pleasant.

Some of you have overcome that hurdle in less than 3 months. Please be thankful for that. We may never understand what is happening at the CSC which is adding to the delay. But nevertheless, I too hope that the cases move to the NVC quickly, now that the petitions are approved.

I think that all of us are very grateful for the fact we got our NOA2's so quickly, but can you blame us for getting excited when we see the 'NOA2-to-NVC' timelines' of others. I think it is the excitement of this stage and expectations that it will happen very quickly that makes us a little more inpatient. I was prepared to wait longer for an NOA2, but once I got it, I expected things to be quicker... I was just very excited for it all to happen, which I'm sure everyone else is too.

Also, for those waiting for the NVC to get your cases from the California Service Center; they just got mine on Friday and I got my NOA2 June 10th. So I'm sure they will get others very soon too. If not they told me that you can send an email to NVCresearch@state.gov with your receipt # on the subject line with a scanned copy of your approval letter.

  8. which timelines? VJ? The people on VJ respresent but a fraction of total filers.

Why get your underoos in a wad?

Your case is moving and no one said it was going to be a fast process. I hate to sound unsympathetic; but honestly your wait time is nothing and you seem to not be comparing yourself to those that have waited longer...but rather to those that are afew days ahead of you.

If it eases your mind, ours was at NVC for afew weeks too.

I just looked at your timeline tmma, and from the time you got your NOA2, to the time it LEFT the NVC was less than FIVE DAYS. So maybe we are comparing ourselves to you. You did not wait a few weeks like you are leading on...

  9. Almost a month and still nothing from NVC. Emailed them and got a response that USCIS had sent everything to NVC and that I should just shut the f up and wait 6 to 8 weeks =((

Well, I just think this month must have been particularly slow. My NOA2 got approved a few days before yours and I just got my NVC case number today... so I'm guessing that yours will hopefully get there by next week!!

  10. Well its been 3 weeks - About 16 business days and NVC doesn't have it. A wasted month.... =(

I was really hoping to hear that they would have had mine today as well, but they didn't. After I told the woman that my NOA2 was approved on June 10th she still said the routine line of, "Well you have to wait at least 15 business days, not including holidays and weekdends." I thought that response was hilarious, since we have waited longer than that now. She was telling me that I could call tomorrow or the next day and if they don't have it then that I could email a scanned copy of my NOA2 to them with my receipt number as the subject of the email. They seem to want to get you off the phone as soon as possible, so I just made her give me the email stuff today anyway.

  11. I got my NOA2 on June 10th and the NVC still doesn't have ours. From what I've seen, a lot of people seem to be in the same boat.

I asked one of the workers on the phone there if it was ok if I called every day because I was too excited to be patient; she was very sweet and said that it was fine. If you're like me, maybe you have trouble hiding frustration in your voice... thus they are a bit snippy back ;)

  12. Thanks for the responses. I just wanted to make sure we could leave the other spots (besides annual income) on 7 blank. Looks like we can! We both (co-sponsor and I) already have our tax transcripts, pay-stubs and employee letters so we are good on that front. I just get worried leaving anything blank.

  13. For question 7, I was wondering if it is ok to just show the annual income and nothing more; so long as it is sufficient? I'm wondering in the case of my cosponsor... she makes more than enough on income alone, and I don't want us to hassle with anymore paperwork than necessary. Would just appreciate some input :)
