Hello, I moved from Ontario to Chicago exactly a year ago. Not sure why I haven't yet, but I think it's time to get my Illinois drivers license.
I did a search about if I have to do a drivers test in this state, since I have a Canadian license. I fond this...
Just wanted to inform people that Canadians DO NOT have to take a driving test when applying for an Illinois Driver's license. Canadians are seen as "out of state" drivers, so just a written and vision test is required. I know this varies state to state, but good info either way.Just want to get a confirmation from somebody if this is still accurate. My Ontario license expires 2014, so it should be ok.
Thanks

Yeah, I suppose we should of just mailed that blank piece of paper.I'm just confused why they would mail it back(the person looking over our case can see my joint sponsor made over 70,000 last year, maybe they could of thought that's why we didn't send it).
It's going to look silly sending that same sheet back blank. I imagine maybe we should compose a letter with the blank sheet they mailed us, explaining why we didn't send it originally?
P.S, I'm married to Angela.

Nothing says its required to be long form just that a birth certificate is required. You could use your short form and order a new one just incase/ for other things.
Thanks. I am going to the Social Security office tomorrow, is the long form one needed?
-
I somehow lost my Birth Certificate(the long form one) I am pretty sure it was left at the Montreal consulate. Will the short form/original one be good enough for AOS or will I have to order another one?
Thanks.

I'm crossing Bluewater Bridge.
Anything I should know about besides giving the sealed package and my passport? I imagine they will ask questions, am I correct? Any horror stories happened to anyone?
When would be the best time to cross? I'd rather it not be busy. I'm thinking of leaving at 3am(and I should arrive there at 5am).
Also one last thing, how much am I allowed to bring into the country? I'm thinking $500 will be in my wallet. Is that ok?
Thanks!

Is it just me or anyone else have trouble calling dhl? It just seems like I can't get anywhere when I call. Most of the time I click option 3(because it says something like information for pick up) and I either get transferred back to main menu or just get complete silence.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I just wait till I get the call/email from them?
Thanks.

Thanks guys!

ISSUED!
Dos told me it was issued on the 22nd and that I should call DHL or Montreal to see if it was sent out/arrived.
In a good mood, finally. Now I just hope they don't take forever to mail it out.
-
When I called last Friday they said it was reviewed August 12th, then on Monday/today they said it was reviewed again on the 19th., but still pending, Is it normal to be reviewed more than once?
-
Bump!!!
Like Angela stated above, they received it on July 25th, now today is the 7th, wouldn't it make sense they review this week or even next week? I don't see why it should take this much longer..?
-
Yeah, that was all good
I need to stop thinking a "real certificate" needs to be sent. Clearly I misunderstood her.
It's getting sent today through a usps mail service this morning. Champlain, NY, should have it at 3pm tomorrow and I pray to god Montreal sends the stiff right when they receive it.

So, it's a photo copy of the birth certificate for the I - 129 f, right? It makes sense but I could of sworn the lady said I needed the real/ original mailed to that location and not photo copy.
We did put it in! Not sure why it's all of a sudden not there. Oh well.
-
for some strange reason we apparently forgot her birth certificate photo copied when we sent out the I-129 10 months ago. The lady I was getting interviewed from said this usually is taking care months ago but sometimes this happens.
I guess now Angela needs to photo copy her birth certificate(or send it original? don't remember now) it and mail it to an address in NY, then it will get mailed to Montreal and then they will mail everything to my DHL location I submitted a while back - well, I believed that's what she said. Can anyone confirm?
So, we basically mail the birth certificate to "U.S. Consulate General - IV Unit"(P.O. Box 847, Champlain, NY 12919-0847) with our Case number, our address, our phone numbers and emails?
Thanks

Good luck to you too!
-
Thank you.
I'm going to try and get the letter out to my hotel tomorrow anyway(to be on the safe side) but your msg made me feel a little better
-
Well, that's obviously better than straight up denied and lose everything we worked so hard on. Still it's our goal for tuesday to be a success. Thank you for replies
-
I'm talking with my Angela, she is thinking about getting him(boss) to write something tomorrow morning and fax it to me possibly at the hotel I'm staying at(if they have one). Would the embassy accept this as legit proof?
-
So, I will be denied right away then....
Isn't there a way I can tell them I will get her to get the owner/boss to write something up, explaining she will be here for a while, etc and fax/mail it ASAP? I know the answer is probably no..
We have did so much work on this the last 10 months, countless hours of headaches filling all these documents out and I've spent quite a bit of money(like you all know how much it is everything all together), it just seems like everything is now a waste
-
The thing is, I'm heading to Montreal tomorrow morning (Tuesday is interview) so we can't get a letter mailed to me that fast. I have 5 real pay stubs from April -June showing it's enough and couple days ago she actually emailed me 2 more pay stubs for July(2011).
Here is 1 of 2 statements to show. I didn't want to show my name/account numbers, so that's why the black marks.
-
$30,000
I don;t know it's that's a lot to some people, but I think that is decent
-
Not even my bank statements showing I have a lot of money?
-
5 pay stubs from this year, showing she works 40 hrs a week and shows she makes enough hourly
-
Now my little lady is nervous about Tuesday!
It's because of support stuff. She is thinking the people in Montreal will think she can't support me. She does make the amount that is needed, but she is scared she needs tax returns(she started work this year, early 2011 for the first time ever).
Again, she makes what is asked and what's also important, in my opinion, is I'm bringing my bank statement, showing that I have a large amount of cash in my bank account.
We should not be worried over this, right?
-
Thanks.
Okay, one last thing before I leave and hopefully bump this in a week in happiness... how many passport pics I need???
I'm kind of getting sick of continuing going back to walmart and getting taking again and again, lol....

Yeah, I figured you have to do the test. Interesting about the refund for your Ontario license...
