  1. I did not provide IRS transcripts, just my tax return papers for the past 3 years (they really only require the last years, but I like to give them too much than not enough). We did have a joint sponsor and filled out the I-864 (me and the joint sponsor). The immigrant visa is a one time entry visa that you have to use within 6 months of it being issued. Once you enter the USA they will stamp your passport with a temporary green card (I believe its called I-155) and then they will send the green card to the address you filled out on your forms where you said you would be living.

    Hi C. Georges,

Thanks so much for the info. I have to ask though, the tax return papers from the past 3 years, were they Colombian or American? The thing is my wife has been overseas for more than 10 years and we didn't realize she still had to file tax with the US. We're working on that now but if it can wait until we get to the US then that will be better.

  2. Thank you! We were approved!

You can find the review here

    Hi C. Georges,

Congrats on the approval! My wife (who is from the US) and I (Australian) will be filing DCF through Bogota as well. Did you have to provide IRS Tax transcripts for you? Also, did you have to have a joint sponsor or fill in any forms for affidavit of support? And lastly, how long does your wife have to enter the US?

    Thanks,

    Johan

  3. If I read correctly you are both living in Columbia now and are employed there. Why not file for Consular processing and stay together there until your VISA is ready?

    Hi Brokenfamily,

That could be a good idea. At first we thought I could enter the US on a WVP for 3 months while the visa is processing, but now that we know it takes about 6 months to process, we might consider staying here until the VISA is ready.

    Cheers,

    Jo

  4. Hi everyone,

My wife (US Citizen) and I (Australian) are currently working in living in Colombia, South America. We want to apply for the CR1 Visa however I just read that for the NVC process she has to provide:

    # Last 3 years IRS Tax Transcripts (otherwise, last 3 years 1040 and W-2/1099)

    # Original Employment Letter

    # Pay stubs (include a few recent ones and a selection from throughout the previous 3 years)

My wife has been overseas for the last 10 years. Does anyone know whether the NVC will accept foreign tax transcripts and employment letters? Will it matter that neither of us are in the states and have a job there? Would it be better to wait for her to get a job offer first in the states before we make an application?

    Thanks

    Johan

  5. Hi Everyone,

First of all, just wanted to say what an invaluable website this is :)

I'm Johan, I'm Australian and my wife is from Chicago. We are both currently residing in Colombia, South America working as English teachers. We now want to relocate to the states but my wife wants to wait until she gets a job offer before we apply for the visa. Anyways I have a few questions and it will be great if anyone can help us with it:

    1. Once we have lodged the I-130, would it be possible for me to enter the US on a tourist visa?

    2. Would it be possible to arrange the interview in the US? Or will I have to fly back to Colombia for this?

    3. Is it possible to do the whole application process in the states?

    4. How long does the process usually takes all up? From what I have read on this website is seems to usually take less than 6 months, but has anyone experience longer processing times?

    5. Is it true that police clearances are valid for a year? What are people's experience with this?

    Thanks everyone!

    Johan
