Hi everyone,
Just a quick one.......
I have my biometrics appointment today and was wondering whether or not I needed to take any evidence along with me other than my original appointment letter and my green card? Does my wife need to be in attendance?
Many thanks in advance,
Nathan

That's no dilemma at all! You will be allowed back into the country as long as you have the original I-797 Receipt Notice (or NOA1 as we call it on VJ) as well as your expired green card. Those two items combined will serve as a one-year extension of your green card.
Enjoy Christmas back home!
PS: Why not add your filing dates to the list so we can all compare notes?
Thanks Caly!!
I will certainly update my filing dates

There is no way you will get the GC back in time for Christmas.. It will take many months... You should get the NOA1 back before then (usually takes less than two weeks) it extends the current GC for one more year so take it with you when you go... To return you will need both the expired GC and the NOA1 extension letter.
Thank you so much guys, I can now rest easy

Hi Guys,
So I have a bit of a dilemma. My initial 2 year green card will expire on November 20th, and I only sent my i-751 off in the post 9 days ago. Not a big deal as I'm still well within my 90 day window, but I am planning on taking my family to England for Christmas. My question to you guys is what happens if I don't have my green card back in time? My old one will have expired so I'm presuming they wouldn't let me back into the country should I leave? Do they have anything in place for these kind of situations to enable people to travel?
Many thanks in advance guys,
Nathan

I visited my girlfriend (now wife) back in May 2011, whilst we were still waiting for my K-1 to be approved. I arrived in Chicago and had no issues. The customs officer simple asked me my reason for visiting, to which I told him "visiting my fiancee" He asked my if I planned to marry on this visit, to which I told him "We are waiting for my fiance visa to be approved, so no" He stamped my passport and told me to have a nice stay.
Obviously everybody has different experiences, but it seems the majority of people don't encounter any issues.
My advice would be to take a few pictures of you and your other half with you in your hand luggage, and details of your return flight on hand. The fact that you have nothing to hide should make it a smooth transition, so fear not people.

Isn't the feeling just great?? Very happy for you. Next I would do as the above have stated, Police certificate, Medical booking and downloading the correct forms that need sending in the to London based US Embassy. If you don't have access to a printer at home, I would suggest downloading at least 3 sets of forms as it's very easy to make a mistake and will save you from going back and forth to wherever you are using the printer. Also be aware that you need your police certificate for your medical. It may be worth going to your local gp and getting the necessary vaccinations needed for the K-1 as they are pretty expensive down in London, and even more expensive in the states. Though it is not essential that you get your vaccinations in order for you to get your K-1 approved you will need evidence that you have had them when you go for your adjustment of status. It just makes life A LOT easier to get them done back in England, and like I said, your gp should do them for free (they did for me)
Good Luck!!

Hey guys,
Just thought I would share some good news and let you all know that I went for my AOS today and I was APPROVED It all went very very smoothly. They didn't take my vaccination records (I didn't have my vaccinations done in London) or ask to see anything like bank statements or tenancy agreements, The gentleman just simply asked a few simple questions like "how did we meet" and had a look through some of our wedding pictures and that was that. He then told me my Green Card will arrive within around 10 days. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY

Thanks Guys this has been a great help

Hey guys,
I have my interview for my AOS on November 21st....I didn't get my shots in London so I'm having to go and see a civil surgeon on November 16th who are insisting that I have to have the whole medical all over again. Though I have read that some CS will just do the vaccination transcripts I have called so many that I'm just prepared to go ahead and have the medical now as I cant't really be bothered with all the hassle.
I have my vaccination records signed and stamped from my doctor back in England, so my question is will that be sufficient enough evidence for them? Also will I be required to have a FLU shot?
Any help on this matter will be greatly received
Many thanks in advance

I just want to thank every single person on VJ especially those who have been kind enough to have answered my questions over the past 7 months. This site has been an absolute saviour to me and I will always appreciate the time and effort people have taken to help me. I fly out to Indiana to be with the love of my life tomorrow morning and just wanted to share some love on here as i know a lot of people have been through, and are going through real hard times on their own journeys. I wish you all my best wishes on the rest of your journeys.
May God be with you
Again im so greatful to you all

Hi guys
I have a one way flight booked for this friday and i need to check in online and im a little unsure about what information i need to provide. I have to provide what document type i have and i have 3 options. 1, passenger passport 2, identity card (green card) 3, identity card (special) 4, approved non-standard identity document. all of these options also require a document number. So i guess my question is, which one of these would apply to me on a k-1 visa.
As always guys any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Hi all
I have my interview in london on tuesday morning at 8:30am. The nerves are really starting to creep in now, but i guess its only natural. I know it clearly states on the website what documents to bring to interview, but it would just be great to have someone on here just double reassure me that i have everything i need for the big day. The embassy website can sometimes get a little confusing (well to me it does)
so i have ready for interview.......
passport
birth certificate
police certificate
i-134 from fiance and co-sponsor including tax/w2 forms for past 3 years, plus employee letter and birth certificates and other financial supporting evidence
lots of supporting evidence i.e photos, flight stubs e.c.t
interview letter
mrv receipt of payment
my passport style photos
NOA1 and 2
copy of i-129f original
DS-230 part 2
all originals
if im missing anything PLEASE let me know. Many thanks in advance guys, im always so appreciative and greatful of all the help i get from you guys on vj

I totally agree with the above statement. We used a lawyer from the start as we just felt as though they would make sure that we would get everything right the first time. Turns out we ended up filling out 95% of the paperwork ourselves and they just printed it up and sent it off. We had done all the forms with the lawyer in his office on i think october 15th, and we didnt end up getting our NOA1 until november 5th, so he obviously just left it collecting dust. Since then we got our NOA2 on march 30th, which he didnt even tel us about until 1 week later (luckily we got an email) but the whole time he didn't even bother to prepare us for the next step i.e downloading DS forms, obtaining police certificate and he went on a 3 week vacation. He also told my fiancee that in order to pay for my visa in london i had to call his office in indiana and do it through him as he said "its just easier that way", which is rubbish as its as simple as picking up the phone myself and paying for it. We have just parted company and we collected all of our things from his office and are so happy we will now be going it alone. VJ can give you the answer to everything you need, and has been a huge help to me and my fiancee (a lot more help than my lawyer) and it wont cost you $2800 like it has me and my fiancee This whole process is time sensitive to alomost everyone, so in my opinion i would NOT hire a lawyer. My ranting aside i don't know your circumstances and you still may want to hire a lawyer, but i just thought i would share my own experience with you.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey
